Wow, you mean one of DARPAs projects actually got somewhere? *actually impressed*

That is both cool and really fucking scary. First beetles, then mice, then dogs and then fucking bears and then we're screwed.
Just like to point out, DARPA invented the internet.

Truth be told, they do have a lot of projects that go nowhere. Between this and the cyborg arm they built for a kid who got his blown off in iraq, sci fi is getting very real.
I thought CERN invented the internet.

Nope, DARPA invented it when it was still just ARPA. Them and Al Gore. CERN invented Gordon Freeman, Nuclear Physicist.

Joke aside, CERN did have the first web server and laid the groundwork for the first World Wide Web, but ARPAnet was the predecessor to all of that.

Yes, it's me I want to be remote controlled *eyeroll*
I know what you meant. But realistically, if there was any way to get in on some sort of "bionic-enhancements" program, you would probably have to give up your free will...

(scientists have read up on their x-men lore...they know better...)
Exactly. How long until we start seeing legions of remote controlled humans for warfare, specifically bred (or cloned?) for the purpose of shooting the shit out of the specifically bred (cloned?) legion of remote controlled humans on the other team?

/Or maybe I've been reading too many sci-fi novels.

I came to say something similar... but that picture trumps andything I could ever say ever. You may have won the internets.

So CERN did invent the internet?, they had created the first webserver.

Sorry, but calling ARPANET the first porn site just seems funny to me.

I don't think that's what I said at all, especially since things like Usenet and Telnet (the latter being in existence since the 1970s) existed when ARPAnet existed but long before CERN's TCP/IP web server was created. The server itself was isolated from the Internet at large (such as it was) until 1989, same year that the first commercial ISP was created, by America.

However the major contribution by CERN, or more correctly, Tim Berners-Lee, was HTTP and the WWW protocols.

In short, Confusing.

haha! got you!. Sorry i'll stop that now.

edit, regardless of who invented beetles and the protocols and the such, lets be honest here
the internet was a much better place when it was too complicated for stupid people and then too expensive for poor people.

All I could think then was what a massive beetle that was! :|

Pretty impressive stuff. Wait til they do it on humans, then we're screwed.

I'm well aware that a number of super dandy inventions that we take for granted these days were initially developed by DARPA. I've also heard that they have a super high failure rate (above 90% as I recall) for their projects, so it's always surprising when something they come up with actually works.
I wouldn't be surprised that they have such a high failure rate, given that they fund highly experimental research. As in, they exist to make crazy projects: it's not so surprising that most fail.

At any rate, I suppose this lends credence to the idea behind the Gamer movie: that we'll soon have "virtual reality" deathmatches with real people on death row being controlled for our amusement.

na cern invented the web.. slight technical difference.

quick history of the internet as we know it today:

american military reserach: routers, udp, some other old protocls, datagrammes(i think), merc, celular networking. basicaly the hardware and bare bones protocols.

CERN: the web, tcpip, http.

sun microsystems: java and active server scripts

novel: ipx

microsoft: stole everything and made it their own.. oh and they invented asp and .net.

-----------

on the point about the beetles.. scary stuff. some one tell peta imediately! free the beetles.....

Firstly, thanks.

Secondly, your fucking right, we need to tell PETA as soon as possible, hopefully they'll get some hot models naked and parade them around for the sake of the beetles.

Finally, a good reason to have PETA in our lives.

In the future wars will be fought by robots. Humans are too damn expensive.
What are you talking about? They're free, there's over 6 billion of them, and they keep making more of themselves.
