You know... I've never understood why something like this is so bad in the first place.
Degrading? No, porn is not degrading to women. Jerry Springer is degrading to women (and pretty much all of humanity). Twilight is degrading to women. You could even say Mario (with the helpless princess) is degrading to women.
Porn gives women power, men in history have simply been clever enough to trick them that it's "evil" power. A sexy body is not some sinful cage trapping an otherwise "pure" and "virtuous" woman, it's part of them. As long as they're comfortable and happy doing what they do (even if that's prancing around half-dressed and provoking the boys) then more power to them.
So what if they're "sex objects?" Is any woman here going to seriously try and tell me that they have a deep personal connection with every human being they've ever met? Even porn stars and friends and loved ones. Just because the ENTIRE WORLD doesn't see them that way doesn't mean we're all evil, and it definitely doesn't mean we're incapable of connection with a person closer to us. Next time you think of what a slut some beach model is, stop and think how much better it would be to be her than a 400 lb whale at Wal-Mart in a dirty shirt and sweatpants. THAT is an image that's truly degrading to women.
I don't think Ueda's the one at fault here, I think it's our outdated morals. Better to be an object of desire than an object of disgust.
