My wife loves Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Vollyball, and she is very much looking forward to Paradise. I think we will be start fighting over the PSP.

I wonder if they have ever bothered doing market surveys to see the division of Male to Female DoAX players? Yes there is creepy voyeurism and jiggle physics, but there is also the Barbie play dress up and fun beach time minigames as well as the Vollyball which is actually pretty good.

I think people would be surprised by just how many girls play DoAX.

I'm not going to try to explain this, because I'm not sure I can. But Japanese culture has a clearly different take on sexuality and nudity, mostly due to not having several hundreds of years of Judeo chirstian morals. There is also the fact that the equal right movement has not gotten as far in Japan as in many other western countries, as well as every review ever made on DoA paradise or beach volley that we read being done from a very western-centric point of view.

I'm not trying to defend what I see. There message is very clear on what demographic that the game is targetting, but seen through the lens of Japanese culture (please don't make bad jokes now. I KNOW it looks crazy from the outside) even the rather strange statements made by team ninja as regarding their game make some sort of sense.

Go to Japan, live there for a year or more. Study anthropolgy and Japanese culture. THEN come back and read this article again. You'll have a new perspective on things.

Wasn't that "Age" feature in DOA2 great for a laugh?

While I do enjoy the fighting games for their fluidity and overall fun level, the fact that Team Ninja is trying to deny their exploitation of the female form to sell games is kind of like the pedophile wanking off in the back of the bus and getting caught trying to deny it.

I love the fighting games (DOA3 is my favorite of the bunch), and I had a load of fun with the first Volleyball title as well. (Believe it or not, the volleyball was actually pretty good.) I think it's just the sheer blatantness of the cheesecake that makes it so amusing to me.

DOA is probably the best and most balanced fighting series ever. (Fuck off, SF and Tekken and all you other wannabes.) The TnA just makes it better.

That being said, Team Ninja should be a little more honest about what they do with their female characters. Besides, realistic jiggle physics seems about as worthy an endeavor as anything else.
