And no I'm not getting an Xbox One.
Ooh, that's a rookie mistake. And you hate to see it happen.
You seem like a passionate person and I don't see any point in arguing with you anymore because we obviously aren't going to agree or it would have come earlier than now.
I would like to suggest we shake hands (err, metaphorically of course) and agree to disagree here. In my eyes, it's extra content for those who want to (or can) access it. The core game plays fine without it and therefore I don't mind that they came up with what I consider an interesting way to access something I think of only as a bonus. And to you it's some kind of money grab or plan to increase mindshare for Smartglass. I think, I don't want to try and speak on your behalf. That's just what I took away from our exchange. Feel free to correct me if I am mistaken on this point.
To me, this is how innovation happens. It may fail and I may be the only one who thinks this way, but I want to see how it plays out before I come to a final judgement. If I'm wrong and the game is lesser for this content being accessed in a non-traditional way, I'll come back here and eat a heaping helping of crow.
I will offer you a protip though. When you're debating someone and they ask you something like "does this even effect you" (like I did), it's never a good idea to walk into it that way. If I wanted to I could shred your entire point as being irrelevant because you aren't even planning to get the game. I wouldn't even need to make my points beyond that. Just a bit of friendly advice, take it or leave it.
So you're basically saying that because I'm not getting the console or getting the game, my opinion is invalid? That's where your whole point falls flat I'm afraid. That's like telling someone they can't have a valid opinion on the gun violence because they don't own a gun. Or even better, telling anyone they couldn't criticizes Microsoft's horrible DRM decisions leading up to E3 due to the choice not to buy the Xbox One.
Its a strawman point to say the least.
What makes my opinion valid is that it could lead to a trend in gaming that I don't want to see happening, and hope won't happen. I'd hope that we don't NEED to start using peripheral devices to wholly enjoy console gaming and I reckon that won't be the majority. But at the same time, my opinion on why this SmartGlass exclusive mission is a dumb idea is still valid, even though I won't be buying the game or console. In fact, its motivated me further away from the Xbox One, even with the removal of the aforementioned DRM.
I think its a dumb idea due to a number of factors:
-It reinforces that "extra content for some/complete with extra purchase" aspect that most gamers dislike to say the least
-It seems to be a tacked on peripheral gimmick display in the same vain as the WiiU tablet
-Its only there to push Microsoft's app. The game was already an exclusive so there's no competitive sales reason to have this feature.
I also doubt that Capcom really put a lot of effort into this feature the way its described. It seems to be just a way to get extra missions, but if there are SmartGlass mission specific items or achievements attached, I'm out. At least the playbook feature in EA's Madden NFL looked to actually enhance the experience, this seems like MS pushing tablets into people's hands and making revenue with their app. And yes, I know you can access SmartGlass on smartphones, but the way they were shoving that Microsoft Surface around at E3 you would have that we were as Microsoft's CES presentation rather than E3.
