Deadly Premonition: Director's Cut Arrives On April 30

Rising Star Games has officially pegged the release date for the PlayStation 3 incarnation of Deadly Premonition: Director's Cut as April 30, 2013.

In an announcement that doubles as an attempt to push fans toward pre-ordering Deadly Premonition: Director's Cut, publisher Rising Star Games has announced April 30 as the date on which which the game will make its PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Network debut.

As I just mentioned, the announcement is heavily slanted toward pre-selling the reworked Xbox 360 game. Rising Star Games promises that those who pre-order the title from select retailers (Amazon and GameStop, most notably), will be granted access to "downloadable content so plush, that Agent York (and Zach) will feel like their investigation in the small country town of Greenvale just turned into a vacation." Bizarrely the message doesn't illustrate what this content might be, and neither Amazon nor GameStop have any additional content listed. Still, it must be "plush" as otherwise why would Rising Star Games use such a baffling descriptor?

Assuming this utter lack of information on the game's pre-order bonuses doesn't dissuade you from picking up a game that's easily described as a Japanese homage to Twin Peaks, the Director's Cut offers fans a host of new content not found in its initial incarnation. Have a look:

New Features for Deadly Premonition: The Director's Cut:

New Scenario - Surprising new scenario from the game's director, Hidetaka "Swery" Suehiro that will please new and hardcore fans alike
HD graphics - complete graphic overhaul with new HD textures
Improved Controls - reworked control system and mappable controls allow for an even better combat experience
Downloadable content - Expand the mystery beyond the original game and let Agent York (and Zach) live it up in Greenvale - Details TBA...*PROFILING STAR*

Hm. Perhaps that "Downloadable Content" mentioned in the game's feature list is the aforementioned pre-order content? I attempted to contact Rising Star Games a few moments ago, but it's quite late in the day so the lack of a response isn't entirely surprising. Expect an update when/if we hear back.

While the announcement does include a description of the game's plot, Deadly Premonition is an undeniably odd game. Instead of copy/pasting that text here, I'll direct you to this Hardcore Gaming 101 retrospective [http://www.hardcoregaming101.net/deadlypremonition/deadlypremonition.htm] on the title. As with all HG 101 articles, it should be seen as the definitive take on Deadly Premonition, though I will warn prospective players that reading the text in its entirety may spoil certain key plot points. As those who played the original version of the game will tell you, spoiling the bizarre events of Deadly Premonition would be a huge mistake on your part.

I am confused, what is this game supposed to be? An RPG? A Third Person Shooter? A horror game?
From what I've seen it's a murder mystery psychological shooter shaving simulator.
I'll probably check it out when it's coming out.

EXACTLY! It's an amazing game that tried something new and is not very polished. But like a lot of cult classics. Firefly, Twin Peaks etc. it gets by on it's charm. It's a game you will grow to love and nurture even when it sometimes shits in your coffee. So if Firefly was an abused cat basically.

Yay! Deadly Premonition on PS3! I have been hoping that we'd get it in America for so long and here it is! If anyone doesn't know of the game I suggest the absolutely sublime LP of it on the LP Archive [http://lparchive.org/Deadly-Premonition/]

Anyway, yeah, I recommend picking it up. It is properly crazy.

I feel Jim explains it best though. [http://www.destructoid.com/review-deadly-premonition-165168.phtml]

It all most sounds like they're porting it to the PC...But no.
I would like that so much, as nowadays PC is just so much more practical than me booting up a console as the consoles i own are all in my bedroom while the computer is sitting comfortably at the living room.

This game is fantastic. I'm pretty excited for this Director's Cut, if it does well they'll make a sequel. So I recommend that everyone should buy a copy! From what I've heard some of the new content will be about a mysterious young girl. But most of what I've heard is vague.

One of the best games in recent memory. I'm still currently playing through it actually. Doing a Lets Play of it actually on my YouTube channel. I absolutely adore this game.

Here's what I want to know. I missed the 360 version, and decided to wait until this director's cut came out to get in on the action. What I've mostly heard though is that the charm and desirability of the game was that it looked and felt crappy, like watching a B movie. Would updating the graphics and controls and stuff just make it another bad game, taking away that "broken, but beautiful" charm of the 360 version?

Actually most of the charm is from the characters, dialogue, and story. Personally, I suspect when they say HD improved graphics what they're actually saying is "we've adjusted the graphics so they'll play on a PS3". And the controls? From what I understand they're just making them more inline with the RE4/DS style that most people are used to. That and making it only one difficulty setting, because no one is playing this game for the combat challenge. The improved graphics and controls won't take away it's B movie charm.
