I doubt releasing the second one is a good idea, as I'm guessing quite a few of those sales were uninformed random sales.
Which probably won't be buying again.

Indeed it is, but as long as people shell for numbers two, three and the odd four they will still make more sequels, and if the games are good I'm honestly not too opposed to the idea.Mr. Mike said:Even after my little spiel, I too will admit that another Demon's Souls would be excellent. However, it's the fact that this has become the norm for AAA games these days. Every game these days is EXPECTED to have a sequel. It's preposterous.
And that there is a point against the "Games as Art" debate. Artists don't go "Hey, well they liked the Mona Lisa, let's make another!"Fayathon said:Indeed it is, but as long as people shell for numbers two, three and the odd four they will still make more sequels, and if the games are good I'm honestly not too opposed to the idea.Mr. Mike said:Even after my little spiel, I too will admit that another Demon's Souls would be excellent. I'm tempted to go out and ask GAME and Gamestation if they can import.Flour said:Riobux said:Yet no EU release? Oh well, at least they kept the price reasonable(?59 for standard, ?69 for deluxe, on another website they charged ?70 for the standard version).
Oh well, the import shows there's a market for it, but it's Atlus' loss for not releasing it in Europe. There are enough people who would buy a game but don't want to import.
Many people see sequels as a chance to expand upon ideas they liked in the first game and a chance to fix what went wrong. Shadow of the Colossus didn't have a sequel (it was a spiritual successor to Ico, sure). But that's an old game. The industry seems intent on milking the crap out of something the moment they realise people like it and will buy it.Fayathon said:I'm a little surprised that they estimated so low on their sales of Demon's Souls, I loved it, even when it was handing my ass to me on a silver platter. That said I'm really looking forward to its sequel, I'll definitely be snagging a copy.
In this day and age where numerous things can be added through simple patches, why do we really even need sequels?
Nonetheless, good work From Software, you really created an awesome game. Did Atlus even have to do much? The Asian version was already in English (sometimes Engrish) and had the English voiceovers. Oh well, they still introduced it to many now-happy gamers.
And fair enough. When this is the case, I'm all for it. But certain games these days don't really seem to need a sequel, but because people can't be bothered to come up with a new IP, they just create a sequel. See also: Bioshock 2. I'll be honest and say I haven't played either, but as far as I know the original Bioshock wrapped everything up nicely enough. There wasn't really a real need for a sequel, but one was made anyways.John Funk said:Many people see sequels as a chance to expand upon ideas they liked in the first game and a chance to fix what went wrong. The IP belongs to Sony, it would be a different story if it wasn't like Metal Gear or Final Fantasy.oppp7 said:I think some people bought it just because they wanted to show they don't suck at video games. Is it ever coming out for the Xbox BTW?
