Demons Souls?

I just got Demons Souls because i heard it was one hell of a hard RPG game.
So far that phrase has proven to be correct. I just started about an hour ago and was confused to what exactly i had to do. I have been into the first level and died about 6 times now to this dude with a lance. I do admit i like the challenge but i wish it explained what i had to do in more details.

Thoughts on this game? And can someone shed some like on this game.

Is he on a very narrow bridge? If you. You can't beat him yet. Come back when you're WAY stronger.


It's hard but it's also a game you have to learn how to play. Everyone dies 100 times at the beginning.

The first time I finished the game I was level 90something.
The second time, I was 70something and it was way easier! simply because I knew how to fight.

The reason I like the game so much is that it's the only RG game where your skill as a player comes into account.
And you can never be careless when you play. You can die no matter what level you are if you're dumb.

Endure while you get repeatedly slaughtered and you loose all your souls; the game is worth it!

One thing about the game pissed me off though, and I don't hear people talk about this enough: The game has a piss poor ending. Once you get about halfway through the game and have leveled your character, the game gets frickin easy, like a normal game! Maybe I accidentally hit all the hardest levels first, but after defeating the False King I breezed through the rest of the game (World 3 and 5), one-shotting bosses with firestorm and never loosing more health than some grass couldn't get back. And then when all worlds were over, there's no last boss, no epic battle against the Old One. It really bothers me that a game with such difficulty has such an unsatisfying ending.

Yeah... you definitely did the hardest levels first. The False King is the final boss.

Basically, all the -x levels are of similar difficulty, so you do 1-1, then 2-1, 3-1, etc., or you can mix it up and do them in a different order, but you still do the first levels first. If you finish one area completely before going to another, you end up going, difficuly-wise, from endgame to tutorial.

Generally when people not in the mainstream media describe a game as "hard" I avoid it, since it usually just means getting trounced thirty times on the first boss.

Before I get into Demon's Souls, I have to ask: why are there so many people who say "RPG game?" I'm not picking on the TC, and it's obviously not a big deal. I just find it odd. Don't they realize they're essentially saying "Role Playing Game game?"

But on to Demon's Souls. I think most of the tips have already been mentioned but...

1. Play as Royal. They start with a good set of armour and weapons plus magic. Soul Arrow is great for kiting the red-eyed knight and getting tons of souls early in the game. They also start at level 1. So you have complete control of their stats.

2. Get a bow. Many of the game's problems can be solved with some cheap run and gun tactics with a good bow and arrow. Even the bosses.

3. In the immortal words of LordKat, "You're gonna' die... A LOT." People like to say Demon's Souls is all about skill, and yeah, skill is part of it, but it's more about memorization. Much like old-school NES games, Demon's Souls is purposely torturously difficult and makes no apologies for it. The only way to succeed is to persevere through trial and error and learn the enemies' patterns.

TIPS:
Do not wait until 8th runthrough to fight Blackphantoms for weapons.
Do not play as Jack of All Trades unless you want a royally hard(yet fun for me) time.
Yes, you can win a 5vs1. Just don't give up.
Do not disconnect while in another players world. You will get stuck in their server, and if they haven't beat the bosses you have, you will have to fight them again.(Flame Lurker 4 times for me in my first runthrough...)

FlameLurker isn't that hard as long as you know how to fight him. Run, Block, and make sure you got the water spell on and weapon magic.

I had none of these. I started as a knight and maxed out strength first.

It's a great game, but it definitely requires a bit of investment.

There's really no shame in reading the guides, for one. Cornering, etc. that might be considered "exploiting" are all good in the books of most players simply because the game is nigh impossible without half of them. Fighting the Iron Knight without tricking up his ranged attack, or god forbid, melee attacking? HA.

The biggest thing is that the levels always reset to the same way as they started, so memorization is big as well. Surprise will kill you *quickly*.

Get some kind of ranged attack as well. While bows does work, I've always found that magic seems to be more effective against more enemies. Even if you have a tiny mana bar and the basic magic missile, it'll be helpful.

Also, get a shield and run around with it up. Going around corner? Shield. Jumping down somewhere? Shield. You can attack while having your shield up as well, which can come in handy at times.

That being said, make sure that you always can move at your fastest speed, and learn to dodge. While it might be tempting to outfit yourself in the biggest armor you can find, it only helps so much. If I remember right, that means keeping your equip burden under 50% of your max. Remember the Rogue's Creed: why worry about minimizing damage with armor when you can simply not get hit at all?

In all, don't worry if you die. It'll happen, and you'll lose a LOT of souls in the process. Just remember: you'll do better next time.

(Oh, and look up the Cling Ring and grab it. It's easy to get, and *very* useful).
