Destiny 2 character creation sucks

While everyone is saying how the sequel is better than the first game, this is an issue I can't let it slide;

Destiny 2 has a CARBON COPY of a character creation from the first game. Yep, that shitty character creation. It only has 6 preset faces, all of which are NOT customizable, few hair styles, colors, and a couple of markings.

I really hoped Activision learned from the first game and add a complex character creation kit. There were great games they could've used as a reference. As much as FO4 was a weak follow-up, it still had an amazing character creation kit.

You might ask "Why do you care? Just pick something and get on with playing the game!" Well, guess what? Some people like me want to invest as much time needed to create ourselves in the game. It makes our in-game character much more relatable. It holds a special place in our hearts (or at least mine) when it comes to characters in games.

Sucks to hear, but I really wouldn't be surprised if extra customization options come along later as DLC, kind of like how Borderlands 2 did it.

On the other hand it's easy to recreate your Destiny 1 character, I guess? Not sure how save transfers work between D1 and D2, or even if there are any.

I understand that there are some emotes in Destiny 2 and your character appears in menus. But since you are always helmeted and fully covered up, I personally don't give a shit about character creation. 99% of the time I'm in first person and cant see myself anyway, and if other people find my character ugly....well fuck em. I know I'm pretty on the inside.

One the one hand, the options all look really good.

On the other, yeah, so many games these days have prebuilt options instead of letting you customize mouth eyes ears seperatly... Is disappointing.

From what I hear your previous characters appearance is all that carries over, so I guess I just won't bother making a new one, since I would be doing so to test out the character creator.

I was kinda irked when the first Destiny was so limited insofar as customization went, but I chalked it up to perhaps the limitations of an MMO having to render so many potentially unique, player-controlled characters all at once in real time (and that idea was based on literally no facts as I?m technologically ignorant,) but I got over it when I realized how little time I spent helmetless.

But that little nerve biter has NOTHING on the lazy ?customization? of Rory McIlroy?s PGR TOUR 15. EA literally went back TWO generations of consoles with their customization options, and still managed to somehow be worse than previous installments of their own franchise (then ?Tiger Woods.?)

honestly, I'm with you in that shitty character customization is awful

but...do characters in destiny games ever not wear a helmet? seems like the idea of helmets ruins customization more than the menu does
You can choose to have the helmets removed when in hub areas and some cutscenes. The helmet will stay on during anything involving combat.

Doesn't really matter to me since everyone will be wearing helmets when I play.

But...single use shaders and pay to win? How do people have this much more money than sense?.. although at this point I'm thinking of just resorting to the term 'pay2pay' with these big budget money syphoning tools.

"These days"? Not being able to customize your character was the norm for a very long time. Then some genres started to come out with more and more detailed character customization. Especially in the mmorpg and rpg genres. So if anything, "these days" some games finally caught up to the fact that people absolutely LOVE customizing their characters. But the majority of them haven't yet. (Or are just too lazy to implement it.)

Ehh. Most games screw it up. The only decent character creation I've seen was in the Saint's Row series (2 onward) and maybe the new Fallout games. I guess Skyrim was all right too.

It really is the sort of thing you should try to do well or not bother at all though.
