Destiny: Rise of Iron Expansion Announced, Not Coming to PS3 or 360

There's a new Destiny expansion titled Rise of Iron, but if you've been playing on PS3 and 360, you're out of luck.

During a livestream on their Twitch channel [https://www.twitch.tv/bungie] today, Bungie unveiled the newest expansion for Destiny, titled Rise of Iron. The new expansion will add an entirely new are of Earth called The Plaguelands, and it will add a slew of new content. That content will include a new cooperative three-player Strike, a new six-player raid named Felwinter Peak, a new mutated Fallen faction, and an increase to the maximum light level. There will also be some PlayStation timed exclusive content when the expansion launches, but Bungie didn't detail what that would entail just yet.

If you're interested in trying out the expansion, you'll need the base game and The Taken King expansion. You'll need to be playing on PS4 and Xbox One as well, as Bungie announced that the new expansion will not be coming to PS3 or Xbox 360.

Anyone who plays the expansion will be able to lay their hands on the Gjallarhorn exotic rocket launcher, and those who pre-order will receive the limited-edition, black and silver Iron Gjallarhorn through a quest in the expansion.

Rise of Iron is set to release on September 20, 2016, and will cost $29.99.

Still not coming to PC? Still not interested.... I'm to poor to buy a next gen console.

No last gen? Oh well, not like I was playing much anyways...

But seriously, while cutting that group out for Destiny 2 makes sense, in the middle of a DLC scheme it just seems scummy.

Destiny 2 is out next year (probably not) so this ain't the middle of the dlc scheme, it's the end of it

They were already on the way out. X360 and PS3 could barely handle The Taken King as it was. If Rise of Iron is as much of a technical and system step up as TTK was, X360 and PS3 probably can't physically handle it.

So how much HHD space do all these expansions and main game take up then? Most vanilla AAA games already take up 50gig on average, i can see Destiny fans having to commit most of their HDD for the "full experience." Am having trouble juggling what i already have.

Requiries previous expansion and attempting to bait preorders with a cosmetic weapon. Seems to me theyre just squeezing the fans before they release the sequel next year.

Let me clarify: "middle of something" around here means before all of it is done. So this is in the middle of it. The end of the DLC scheme would be after RoI is released.

Yeah, I know, but it's still a bit of a slap in the face. "Hey, wanna get all the story? Too strapped for cash to get a new console but can afford a $20 DLC? Sucks to be you!" is the sentiment I'm getting from this. I don't know much about hardware or software, but as for the technical stuff, isn't it easier to downgrade crap? Add fog and stuff to reduce visibility, lower texture resolution, etc, etc... Doesn't really seem like an excuse.

It is past time to get with the times. The PS4/XB1 came out 2.5 years ago. They're already quite out of date compared to a PC, and were so even as they launched. Trying to support, and expecting support for hardware that is a decade old is frankly absurd. Anyone should consider themselves lucky they even supported last gen consoles at all for this release.

I plan on buying a 2TB HD next check anyway. I had to move games out for the last 2 I purchased. Don't see why this would be any different.

Destiny was the last game I bought on consoles. I went PC this gen cuz of the lackluster line-up for PS4 and the security BS on XB1. I'm with the times, thank you very much.

Whatever, I don't much care since I haven't touched Destiny since Halloween. Just thought supporting a platform completely through a DLC scheme wasn't too much to expect.

So...Lord Saladin is Jon Snow, and the White Wa...sorry, Fallen, have breached the Wall?

Outside of the gameplay stuff, you could look at the pre-rendered stuff and think Destiny is a fantasy game. Which may or may not be accurate. 0_0

Its space fantasy. The fantasy parts having been ramped up a bit more since the original release. Although guns are the primary weapons, all the Guardians and most of the (Cabal aren't really explained, but the rest are) enemies you fight essentially are using different forms of magic to power them up. Which is why the mostly-offscreen regular humans can't just go out and fight (and in the only instance shown so far, mostly fail horribly).

Yeah, I'm aware. Being pedantic, I'd actually classify Destiny as science fantasy rather than space fantasy though. Star Wars is an example of space fantasy, in that not only is it using fantasy tropes in its narrative, but it doesn't even try to connect itself to the real world or any scientific concepts. Destiny relies on fantasy tropes as well, but it's still a future that stems from the world as we understand it. Similar to Warhammer 40,000, in that I call it sci-fa; set in the future, but relies a lot on fantastical elements (e.g. Chaos).

it's probably a big disappointment for the players who have previous-generation consoles.
