i find DMC 4 runs fine on my computer and i can still get SSS combos on a keyboard and mouse...

i don't see that many quibbles about the quality of the game on PC as compared to console (not that i have it on both...) but yeah... just in general response to people saying that DMC 4 for PC is not selling cuz it isn't good... well i like it and i'm pretty sure that some other people out there would too...

eh i'm a "fan boy" what can i do?

Remember Evil Dead? If I remember correctly, the DVD case is actually a replica of the Necronomicon. How cool is that?
And Myst 5 had a case that looked like a linking book. That's the most recent example I can think of for creative packaging. Most companies just don't bother. It's sad.

And yes, there should definitely be more "feelies" with games. I've bought the feelie pack for the Sam & Max games, and at this very moment I'm wearing a Spore t-shirt that came with my Galactic Edition. I wouldn't get it for every game, and I'm not sure it would influence my "buy"-"don't buy" decision based on the merits of the game (except negatively, if they increased the price of the game as well), but I would imagine that it'll favourably influence people for the "buy"-"pirate" decision. People love getting toys. I know I do :)

I recently played boh the console version and the pc version directly after eachother. I can safely say that the problem lies not with piracy but with the horrible controls instead. Note the unusualy low seed rates on torrent trackers. Good games generaly have more seeds then leechers after less then a day. For this game quite the opposite is the case.

I own the original of DMC 4 (PC) and I play it with a good gamepad. It plays great but ofcourse I cannot compare this to the console versions because I haven't played those.
But games like these are console games and as much as I love to play them on my PC I cannot deny this.
But I love the effort of companies to port or release such games for the pc. If this didn't happend all PC gamers are stuck with FPS, RTS, God sims, and other point and click games.
But games that originated from consoles are mostly multi player games. They don't require online acces so an original key is not needed to still enjoy the game.
And indeed extras are good to. Take Jade empire for example.
The pc version had a sweet metallic box with good box art, a poster and a booklet with some concept art and best of all it was less then a full price.
But Pirating is not really the only cause.
Even the PS1 still sold well even if it was easily modded.
I also think a history of sloppy ports is to blame, when a console game comes to the PC gamers get sceptic because the pc has a long list of console games that could've been so much better if they were ported right or better(as is the case with DMC4)being build for the PC.
And as for the pc with a gamepad goes. Why would Pc gamers hate using a gamepad? Console gamers use keyboards and/or mouse from the dawn of time. I don't see the reason to hate a gamepad it works better with race games as well and they come cheaper than racing wheels.
And most action games benefit from it.

People in wealthy countries (who can pay for games they REALLY want) tend to get illegal copies of the games that are not good enough to pay for. The issue isn't poor Timmy who can't afford the latest FPS... the issue is poor games that don't deserve to be paid for.

If the game is bad, why is Timmy stealing it?

If a game is too bad to buy, it's too bad to play. People claiming that they only steal bad games are trying to excuse their behaviour... it's not the reason they do it, it's just a whitewash they put over their lousy argument. If a game's too expensive to play, buy a used copy or wait for the "bad" game to get a price reduction... or just don't play it.

I stand by what I said. As someone who has never pirated or played a pirate game, I can nevertheless understand those that steal a game and then buy the full version when they realise it is good. I have no excuses to make, nor apologies to make. The good outs and makes money in the end. (And no, you're not having my real name! ;) )

That's a crap argument. If a game's not worth the asking price, then don't buy it. As a consumer, you're free and clear to exercise that right; what you're not free to do is steal it because you've decided the price is unjustified. Like Steve said, it's nothing more than an excuse for greasy behaviour, and not a particularly good one at that.

You are not entitled to free Big Macs just because you think McD's charges too much, or should be serving steak, or want to taste the burger before paying.

These days, given the ubiquity of the Internet, games have demos for determining whether or not it's worth playing; the "try before you buy" argument for piracy falls flat to me, because there are legitimate avenues for doing so. There are demos that are unrepresentative, yes, but that's why we have game reviews and web sites devoted to the games industry... or, should those fail, the ability to avoid future products from that design studio. (And yes, these depend upon Internet access... but so does piracy, really.)

I've seen lots of explanations of why piracy is around, but I haven't seen a justification for it that I haven't found a thin cover for, "I want free stuff".
