The first game in the franchise, Digital Devil Story: Megami Tensei, was released for the NES on September 11th, 1987 (I feel slightly nerdy knowing I didn't have to double check Wikipedia on that...)
And...well...I'm basically wondering what the title says. Was that the first video game that involved essentially capturing different monsters to fight for you?
Does anyone know of any examples of something like that that came before then?
