I really wanna try Disgea, but I don't own a Playstation, and it appears to be console only.
So, is there any similar games around?
Help, plix.

I don't know much on the subject. Whenever someone recommends tactical/strategy RPGs they usually go for Disgaea or Final Fantasy Tactics (don't know if that one is on the PC either). I'd google search tactical/strategy RPGs. You'll get games that are similar, if not in terms of plot or tone, in terms of gameplay.

If you have handhelds it's also on the DS, PSP and Vita. Or you could buy the games and emulate them for the legally grey area. Any similar games I can think of are all console exclusives as well.

Also are you just looking for SRPGs or Disgaea comedy?

The whole Tactics subgenre seems to have dried up on PC.

The closest is King's Bounty: The Legend.

Wakfu has its similarities as well. But it is MMO.

ARMA Tactics comes out October 1st and is an $8 game.

That Agarest War game is coming out on Steam soon I think.
Though it looks lecherous as fuck. I'd kinda feel dirty playing it but others may enjoy.

Depends on what you're looking for.

If you're looking for the JRPG-ishness, there's a game called Agarest: Generations of War coming to Steam pretty soon. Dunno how heavy it would potentially be on tactical movement or anything, but it's probably the closest direct parallel, as far as I know.

As far as SRPGs in general, though, the most similar from a gameplay perspective is likely to be X-COM: Enemy Unknown (or possibly the upcoming Enemy Within). For something of a middle-ground, there's the likes of Heroes of Might & Magic, King's Bounty, Eador: Masters of the Broken World, or potentially the recent Aarklash: Legacy (which isn't turn-based, but heavily emphasizes strategic movements and knowledge of the enemies you're facing).

Positioning is the most important aspect of Agarest War: Generations of War and Agarest War Zero.
This is of course due to linking attacks with other characters to make large combo strings. Also, bosses usually have very large AoE attacks that can devastate a team in 1 - 2 turns.
Yeah, sounds like it might be relatively similar to Disgaea then.

I haven't actually played any Agarest games, so I wouldn't know. I'm kinda interested in the one coming to Steam myself, though. Though, like hazabaza, the amount of fanservice they show off in even just the promotional screenshots makes me a tad uncomfortable.

Edit: Also - new avatar! I always wondered who the Asian woman was in your previous avatars...
Same lass! Er, as far as I'm aware. I could be horribly wrong, because the internet is great at lying, but I can only ever find this current original gif in reference to Kyary as well.

You'd just never be able to tell, because her music videos are so crazy. :D

This is where the previous one was from.

I hear Agarest War is on Steam (Greenlight?). I don't have Steam (I have PS3 and PSP for SRPGs), so I can only go with what google has told me..

It is much harder than Disgaea (I'd say its the hardest SRPG ever made personally - and that's my favourite genre/ subgenre, so I've played a lot of them). It a very large game that covers 5 generations of protagonists. It's got a dose of ecchi images thrown in but that only encompasses about 5% of the game - most of the time it uses colourful 2d sprites and a rocking soundtrack.

From PS3 version:

It also seems to be on sale:

If you want to move characters around on grid based maps, there's Agarest (already mentioned), X-COM (Try UFO Defense and Terror From the Deep if you have a grudge against yourself.), and even Poxnora which is a collectible ccg tactics hybrid game. I played it for some time, it's got quite the learning curve.

A lot of the staples however, (Tactics Ogre, Final Fantasy Tactics, Disgaea 1-4) are restricted to handhelds of the Sony variety or consoles. I've never been a Nintendo person but I hear Fire Emblem is pretty good for tactics satisfaction as well.

Unless you are willing to emulate (try Warsong & Der Langrissers MD/SNES) Japanese SRPGs are thin on the ground. I would suggest you pick up a PSP 3000 & DS lite since they are dirt cheap to buy 2nd hand and have tons of good SRPGs like Sting's Knights in the Nightmare & Yggdra Union.

on PC
Kings' Bounty series & Grotesque Tactics are western made SRPGs.

EDIT

Oh I forgot Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes, while not a pure SRPG is one of my fave tactics games ever.

From the video can I safely assume Final Fantasy Tactics for a good comparison, haven't played Disgaea myself so if that's the comparison I have no frame of reference. Also on steam It is on preorder, would you say it is a safe pre-order as a port or should I wait for a review.

is Agarest porting to the PC? If you can stomach gratuitous fanservice, then the gameplay is somewhat similar to disgaea, though it's nowhere near as humorous. the first Agarest game at least only had the fanservice limited to optional events that could be skipped if such was your taste, unlike the sequel, which decided to use its bigger budget to add jiggle physics should any of the girls so much as pronounce a word too strongly. XD The games do have a fairly challenging battle system, and a generations system where each hero is the child of the one who came before, with a physical appearance changing based on who you marry, which I thought was pretty neat.

agarest aside.... I can't think of anything, even as recent as PS2 generation. I've always had to lean on my sony consoles to scratch my JRPG itch.
