Do only guys think mustaches and beards are badass anymore?

Not all, but some are undeniably of epically badass proportions, for instance Tom Selleck, Teddy Roosevelt or Big Boss.
I remember wanting and trying to grow a beard as soon as I could as a kid, as did the other few how could, and in my single sex high school having a beard was an enviable mark of manliness. But all the girls I've ever met, having grown up after the end of the soviet union and not in the 70's, either hate facial hair all together or only like action-hero-perma-stubble.

Whats your take?

I friend of mine who is a woman thinks mustaches are cool so its just a preference. I did grow both once, but I thought I looked like a vagrant in the mirror so I shaved both off.

Yes, they're gross. Most guys with facial hair who appear to be under the age of 38 and aren't Mario look like hipster dweebs, anyway. I see it as something only nerdy young guys mistakenly see as awesome and manly, in the same way that they also think narwhals and steampunk are cool.

I dunno. My last 3 girlfriends like the beard I got. But unlike homeless bums and hippies I keep mine trimmed.

I don't like facial hair at all. It hurts and scratches when kissing and I don't like how it looks. I don't think less of anyone who grows them and I wouldn't reject a man because of it, but it's definitely something I overlook as opposed to being attracted to.

My thoughts exactly! Swimming through the ocean, causing a commotion, because they are so awesome! What's not to love above the unicorn of the sea?!

OT: I can't grow a beard (yet!), and when I can, I don't want a proper beard. Most of the time they do not look good. If they are on good-looking people, I'd rather see the person, and if they aren't good-looking, then a beard probably won't work well anyway.

Stubble on the other hand.

The male and female residents of this site can now admit their attraction (and by attraction I mean uncontrollable lust).

I wouldn't really say they're badass. I grow them because they fit my face, and I look weird without them. If you're gonna grow it then keep it trimmed at least.

It just sort of depends on who you are and what type of facial hair you can grow and what looks good on you.

Like take a look at the Ron Swanson (google Ron Swanson) It looks awesome on him. He's a manly man with a manly mustache.

I couldn't grow a mustache like that. It would look horribly goofy on someone like me.

Right now I have a goatee, and I usually have a bit of stubble because I keep my face trimmed, but rarely clean shaven. Most people think it looks ok on me. Some people think it looks bad, but here's the thing...

I look much worse without it. I have a weird head shape and so my beard helps balance it out and it adds character to my face. I keep it trimmed and clean. It's not rough and scratchy, it's actually pretty soft.

Basically even people who don't like it think I look better with it.

So yeah, I think it just depends on who you are and what you decide to grow.

As for whether or not it's badass...that really all depends on you, not your beard. It's like Action Hank said, "it's not whether or not you've got the beard on the outside, as long as you've got the beard on the inside" that determines if you're rugged or not.

I personally love my goatee but there are some facial hair styles that really aren't badass.

depends on person to person, i hate the feel of facial hair on my face so i shave at least once every 2 days, but i know a few friends who can pull some stuff off decent enough.

just like with clothing styles, if you can pull it off, good for you, some people can/can't.

and to all the males in here, do you like a hairy ass girl? (more then likely not, so there you go)

I have at least two friends who love my beard.
Many are impressed by my incredible facial hair at age fifteen, and I think I look really good with it.

I shave every 3 days or so. I think the stubble looks a little good on me, but after a couple of days it starts to look gross.

Now I can't speak for girls obviously, but on of my best female friends said that facial hair looks gross on most guys, so I don't know either...

Cheers. I agree.

As I put it to a male friend, "If a guy is good-looking, I'd prefer to see his face, not a huge mustache and beard. If the guy is not good-looking, a big mustache and beard will not improve his looks." Though I will admit that a guy with a bit of stubble can look quite dashing. Goatees... eh, it depends on the guy. Some men do look better with a goatee. But a full-out mustache and beard combo almost always is a bit of a turn-off for me.

It doesn't matter what anyone thinks, because they are badass no matter what they think or say.

It depends on the girl. My girlfriend loves my stubble. Even when I have a bit of a beard. She adores it. But the ladies that have posted here so far dislike it. To each their own. Variety is the spice of life. If we all liked the same things this world would be a boring place.
