I really prefer a good looking game with average story to a crap looking game with really good story. Seeing as sight is one of our most used sensory organs graphics make up a huge part of a game. It can enhance the story or just make it look stupid. So good graphics= A+

I didn't care before I got a XBox 360, but now they're sort of a requirement for me, which is unfortunate.. I just can't appreciate some games the same as I used to.
If you care that much about graphics, then why get a 360? It's a well known fact that the ps3 has superior graphical capabilities.
And dont mistake my post as mere flaming against the 360, it's a good console, with some great games. I am merely pointing out technical specifications
Because my brother paid for the XBox 360, it's his preference. We had the first XBox before that, too. And I honestly can't see the difference between the graphics of the same game on XBox or PS3; same thing with regular TV and HD TV. It just looks the same to me, and I don't really care THAT much.

..Or maybe I just need a bigger TV..

Care about, yes. Exclusively, no. Graphics need to be at least presentable, but if a game is just brilliant, I'll enjoy even a graphically poor game - for example, Anachronox (uses the Quake 2 engine, I think), the old Fallout games, and GTA:SA, although I'm finding GTA:SA more and more difficult to play as my eyes seem to ache when I watch that old engine.

Well with multiformat, the graphics are only as good as the least powerful system theyre on (excluding wii and ps2 versions, which apparently are made with different engines etc)
so you wont see a difference there. The best comparison is 2 similar exclusive titles, such as Fornza 2 compared with GT5. The 1st xbox was graphically better to the ps2; they have switched roles this gen. The difference between HD and SD TV's is only really apparent on sets above 32"; any smaller and the difference is inconsequential

As an artist, I am drawn to a game with great graphics first, then I evaluate the game for other characteristics I enjoy.

Godfather 2's graphics make my want to tear my eyes out, but if the game is good overall most people would overlook it.

Godfather's fate is in EA's hands now...

That's a tough one; my knee-jerk reaction is an emphatic, "No!" but then I think about all those times I was genuinely mesmerized by screenshots and demo-reels and I have to kick myself upon the realization that, "I fell for it." Then again, I feel vindicated by the fact that so far the best-selling game consoles have not been the graphical powerhouses (with the possible exception of the first Playstation and the Dreamcast).

Sometimes, the high graphics are welcome, and there are genres and gameplay styles that genuinely benefit from the technological advancements. Take the Thief series, or any stealth game for that matter, and we'll find that without the breakthrough of dynamic lighting (and the concealing shadows they create), the game would be a totally different experience (probably less fun). It's the same with racing games; Mariokart and Wipeout are great, but when I want the true sensation of speed and power, I'll always turn to Enthusia or even Outrun 2006. RPGs seem to be the only truly 'graphics-proof' genre; Paper Mario is every bit as rich and detailed as any Final Fantasy game despite its deliberately simplistic graphical style.

Graphics will get the games off the shelves (and mostly into the hands of the casual gamers), but it's the gameplay that's going to keep them out of the 'used' bin.

I'm totally with you on presentation and stylization, and Okami is a great example.

I like eye candy as much as the next guy, but I still play lot of old games like Kotor or Bloodlines and I'm fine with the way they look, after cranking up the settings they're quite nice in fact, so I guess you could say I'm a graphics whore with very low standards.

I don't care one bit. Sure some good graphics are nice, but if they are good or not does not effect my opinion of the game.

For me, nice graphics are a perk. Being able to run Crysis on high is always nice, but the NES has most of my favorite games.

Agreed graphics are a great thing in games they add to the immersion and atmosphere but a truely great game is one that you can pop into an age old console or pc a year later and still have fun with it so yeah graphics are great but nothing really compares to a great story and exellent gameplay [for me one of those is the prince of persia trilogy]

I love going back and playing older games with graphics maxed out. There's something cool about playing Doom 3 or Half Life 2 at 1280 with everything turned on at 60fps.

As for consoles, yeah, I care about graphics. I have an 46" HD set and I like games to look good. Thats why I was disappointed the Wii has only 480p.

i refuse to read all of the posts so im going to assume this has already been said but oh well...

a game can look absolutely beautiful but still be crap, in my opinion as lost as the graphics enable you to get a vague idea of what is going on then i dont care, a couple of my top 5 favourite games were Perfect Dark and Goldeneye on the N64.. graphics werent terrible, but werent good.. and they are great games
