Of course its recommended to game with a light on as it is better for your eyes. But, I'm sure a lot of people don't. Same thing with taking a 15 minute break every hour or so of play. I even have thick curtains on my windows. Those are mostly to eliminate glare more so than just eliminating light.

A single light pointed at a wall behind the TV. It's not direct or too bright, and still enough to prevent eye-strain.
I have no idea if a TV in a dark room actualy causes eye-strain.

I play with a small lamp on, in a direction that does not cause glare on the screen. I imagine it is better for my eyes and it certainly feels better.

I usually play with the lights on. If I'm playing during the evening however, I close the blinds to prevent glare on the screen.

Either as I've turned my brightness down anyway. The lamp comes on at night but it faces away otherwise I get blinded, either by the lamp itself or the reflection off of the desk.

Lights on for me. However, for anything horror then I want to play in the dark, but the only horror game I really have that I've played yet is Alan Wake, which I've not played in the dark yet. I recently bought the original Silent Hill though, so that'll be going on in the dark, and I want to get both Slender and Amnesia, and they'll be 'dark play' games too... ;D

Desk lamp, though I'm not sure why I have it on since I can touch type lol.

I prefer to keep the light on, unless it's a really, really dark game. I can't stand playing brighter games in the dark, it hurts my eyes.

My lights and consoles are plugged into the same powerstrip, so if I want power to my consoles the lights turn on as well. They're rope lights so they're dim and don't have a strong source.

The dark, it helps with the immersion cause I can see everything around my TV less so. It's probably bad for my eyes but...well.....I have never been the most responsible individual.

I've always preferred the dark. I just prefer it more, not sure there's a particular reason for it.

I either have a dim desk lamp on or in darkness, it really depends on what it is outside since my monitor is on my windowsill. I don;t care about darkness because I have a blacklit keyboard and mouse

I keep a soft light on.

My screen is backlit or something. Looking at it in a dark room will make my eyes hurt. Hell, just turning the brightness up to full in a relatively well lit room will make my eyes hurt.

One of my favorite things when the 360 was new, was playing that one mission in COD2 where it's night and raining, with the lights in my room off. Just an epic experience.
