Do you give your Pokemon themed nicknames?

Never really stuck to a theme, although I do have perma nicknames for some Pokemon. If I ever have an Ampharos it is to be called Cleopatra. If I ever have a Nidoking, it is to be named Scaramanga. If I pack a fire type with me, which I usually don't, I call it Burnace, which I wince at now but, meh.

One time I named a Grimer Valdez and made it fight a Wingull. I felt remorse for my actions.

I usually try to do puns. The cornier, the better. Seriously, I want people to literally groan when they read them.

Koffing = Chernoball

Skarmory = Excalibird

Etc.

If I can't think of a pun, try to pick names based on a trait listed in the Pokemon's Pokedex entry. I used to do mythological figures, but I've started to feel that that's a little impersonal, since the names are so ubiquitous . . . yes, I'm weird like that.

Now that OP has mentioned that Pangoro looks like Jotaro, I can't un-see it! (0_0)

Hits just as hard, pretty slow though.

I love that picture, adding Machamp as Star Platinum is a nice touch. As I'm sure you can probably tell, I've become pretty enamored with the series as of late :p

Not really. I give them nicknames based on the personalities I sometimes give them.

Well, I'm working on making a team based on the six main Achievement Hunters:

Nidoking - Geoff
Grumpig - Jack
Miltank - Ryan
Ursaring - Michael
Gourgiest - Gavin
Roserade - Ray

I also made a team based on the Tailed Beasts in Naruto:

Tyranatar - Shukaku
Carracosta - Isobu
Darmanitan - Sun Goku
Gastrodon - Saiken
Heracross - Chomei
Ninetales - Kurama

I do a sort of Ground, Ice, Steel combo team,

So I call them all northern scandinavian names like Inga, and Tova.

I'd like to think if I was a Gym Leader a sort of winter tundra theme would be my schtick.

Also one day I am totally going to organize a real life pokemon gym contest for the kids around the neighborhood to play, once I get enough gym leaders and craft some 'badges'.

I'll bet they'll enjoy that over the summer.

Well, given that Pokemon X was set in some sort of alternate Universe french, I decided to go with a musketeer theme (but only after I'd already stupidly decided to call my starter Amelie)

So, that's:

Chesnaught - Amelie
Azumarill - Athos
Minun - Porthos
Charizard - Aramis
Marowak - D'artagnan
Meowstic - Milady

Themed names? Constantly.

Machamp: The Flesh,
Pigeot: Thunder Girl,
Toxicroak: StinkyDiver,
and Muk: Meltman

Cobalion: Athos,
Terrakion: Porthos,
Virizion: Aramis,
Keldeo: Dartanion
Not particularly original, I know. This team also usually runs an Absol I call Archangel, but that doesn't quite fit the theme.

Blastiose: Leonardo
Carracosta: Donatelo
Torkoal: Raphael
Shuckle: Mikey
Raticate (replaced by Mienshao): Splinter
Armaldo: Shredder
...also, there aren't enough turtle pokemon.

Serperior: Liu Bei
Emboar: Zhang Fei
Samurott: Guan Yu
...alternatively naming the last two Cao Ren and Sun Ce, respectively.

Pangoro: Express
Blaziken: WildWings
Vaniluxe: DQ
Tauros: Outback
Miltank: Wendy
Bronzong: Taco

Tyranitar (or Tyrantrum): Grimlock
Tropius: Sludge
Aggron: Slug
Aerodactyl (or Archeops): Swoop
Scrafty: Snarl

Kabutops: Ginzu
Scizor: Zantetsuken
Bisharp: Muramasa
Aegislash: Excalibur
Garchomp: Masamune
Rampardos: Lohengrin

...to name a few.

...I like naming Pokemon.

I name them after things in either Hawaiian or Latin, usually things that are the same color as the pokemon.

Mewtwo, of course; it even rhymes. Though my current Mewtwo can't join Team Dynasty right now; it's part of a different team. I'll give you a hint: its name is "Frieza". heh.
