With everything from natural disasters to the zombie outbreak, I'm sure there are many reason we can come out with that could give cause to leave home in a hurry.

So, are you prepared? Have you got a bug out bag packed for the one time that you need to take off in a rush? What have you got packed, and why?

I'm toying with the idea myself.

I don't but then again if something happened I would be one of those people who die because I lack any sense of danger, you see it seems I do not react in fear when something happens, I say that out of experience I mean I know that during an earthquake I will just carry on doing whatever it is I was doing because it's already happened to me, I know during a fire all I will do is calmly walk outside while everybody screams at me for taking so long to get off my bed, so there really is no point for me to have one because I'll probably die anyway due to my lack of reaction.

Nope. I'm going to die a statistic, one of the countless millions that will die with the apocalypse. Why bother living with paranoia at the back of my head preparing for something that may never come when I can simply pass away as it is intended.

I used to have something along those lines in case of bushfires. But I've moved into town now so the threat isn't as serious. Now a disaster just means i have to go into work, so i dont bother with any of that stuff, i do however make sure i have all my work things easily available/in my car.

No, because the things I'd want to take are things I use on a daily basis. I can't just leave them in a bag. If my house spontaneously combusted I'd just grab my wallet and my dog and bail. That way I could just buy underwear/socks/temporary accomodation. I don't have anything that I couldn't fathom leaving behind in a situation where I had to leave immediately or else die. The probability of something like that happening where I live is practically zero so preparing a bag would be bordering on paranoia.

I live in Japan so I have an earthquake bag containing: flashlight, batteries, waterproof jacket, scissors, 2 litres of bottled water, instant curry, instant rice, water purifier, canned bread, thermal blanket, chopsticks, a bowl, cash, and a bag to use for the toilet.

I never had one until after March last year, I hope I never have to use it.

If the area that I live ever has a nuclear fallout worse than Fukushima and if death is inevitable, my friend and I have nuclear fallout plans which involve getting drunk on her liquor supply.

No zombie plans. Funnily enough, my house insurance covers every possible eventuality except nuclear fallout and zombies.

I live in the middle of a city of over seven million people and don't have a car. By the time things got bad enough to need a "bug out" bag, there'd be nowhere to bug out to because all the transportation networks would be boned. I figure I'll just put on some black football pads, grow a mohawk, and go all Road Warrior on my neighbors.

I do have a plan but no bag. My plan though is to pack some food, tools and clothes into back of 4x4 (kinda easy, just throw then in over the seats) and drive to my high school where my friends and I have agreed to meet for such an event. Our school has 'blocks' with lockable gates and a large spiky fence around it and contains fridges in the canteen, classrooms to sleep in and machine shops. The perfect base for the new society.

You'll probably find this brand new show full of ideas for your bug out bag.

Honestly, if I really had to think about this, I wouldn't prep a bag, I'd move into a high-rise fit for the rich and brimming with supplies, 28 Days Later style. Cut the power to the elevator and barricade the stairs if it were zombies, not only making it difficult for them to explore the place but also giving me many options for hiding. The odds of one getting through and finding the exact floor and room I'm staying in are slim to none.

This of course assumes that the zombies could starve and I could wait them out. If that were not the case, no idea what I'd do. All I know is I wouldn't kill myself, because the prospect of living in a world post-disaster would be too intriguing for me to pass up.

What's it say about me that I have three of those bags that I took from my local Gamestop after it burned down. Probably just alludes to the perks of being a volunteer fireman and having my dad rub garbage for that county.

OT: I actually do I keep it in the trunk of my car along with a car battery in an insulated case and 2,000 7.62X39 rounds for hunting rifle. For hunting... and zombies...

I have about a month's worth of stuff in stackable totes ready to go. Tens of thousands of rounds of ammunition for rifles/pistols/shotgun. I can have my Apocalypse-mobile (Nissan XTerra) loaded and mobile in under 15 minutes.

Had an impromptu LOL rehearsal about a year and a half ago when there was a mild earthquake near here. I live on an island with only 3 bridges to get to the mainland and the traffic situation is a shitshow on a daily basis without an emergency. That being said, I got home from work that day and two of my neighbors were outside discussing whether or not the earthquake was going to produce a tsunami wave. I asked a few quick questions because I didn't know what was going on and proceeded to load up and bug out. Tuned into the news while I was driving and found out my concerns were unfounded. Had a good laugh with the neighbors when I got back home but they also acknowledged if it had been real, I'd probably have been the only one alive to laugh about it. Complacency kills folks. Be prepared and be proactive and at least you have a fighting chance.

My time as a young father taught me the importance of a D-Bag (for Deployment) Something that is locked cocked and ready to rock on a moments notice. I got both a "I need to get on a plane tonight." bag and a "house is burning down grab this!" bag.

living in a high risk bushfire and flood zone a bug out bag has been an essential since i was a kid. I keep it in my car, clothes, food, water, knife, rope and motionless pully, insect repelant and tool kit. My car also has a bag just for its self, fuel, water, pantyhoes, tyre valves, patch kit, spare battery, tool kit with jack etc. I can attest that this preperation has saved my life atleast once.
