If you want a a good series with mechs in it go with Front Mission. For an Action game I say try Armored Core, Chromehounds. Finally if your looking to buy go for Zone of the Enders series and wait till Armored Core 5 comes out sometime this year.

Mech Assault 1 and 2 for the original xbox were pretty good. We need way more giant robot games.

Mech Warrior: Mercenaries is a great Mech game, especially if you've got a joystick.

Mechwarrior Living Legends is good

It's a mod for Crysis, so not a game per se but it's very well made.

To be honest the only one I can really think of that you'd have fun playing would be Zone of the Enders and it's successor :2nd Runner. They're both a bit short, but they're fun, are based around lots of smooth and awesome combat, and you can probably get both cheap for the PS2 (if you have it)

I would have recommend Chromehounds, which had some awesome strategic mech combat with lots of ffective combinations of mech customization. but since the online servers have closed it's been reduced to a very threadbare story arc that leaves little challenge or stimulation.

The Armored Core series is alright, but it suffers from a bare story, some annoying controls (too many things to simultaneously do and not enough fingers to do them with), and some truly frustrating boss fights (one in Armored Core for Answer has you fight 4 enemy super pilots, and have no guns with which you can fairly battle them with). If you're a fan of customization, then I say give it a try, but if you're looking for something meatier than just dashing back and forth whilst spamming your ammo, you may want to look elsewhere.

that's all I got. Hope this helps.
