Man...you guys should ask for some more formal reviews of games from us. I'd totally sign up for that =D I know theres guest review, but that happens so rarely...
The Guest Reviews happen rarely for the following reasons.

One: not many things submitted are up to our standards for publication. I generally work with those authors to give them some pointers on how to tune up their work.

Two: Someone asks to review a retro game. We don't cover retro games, unless they're being re-released, as with the X-Com bundle on Steam. We even stretched it to include Jade Empire, as it's an Xbox Original.

Three: Someone asks to review a game we're reviewing in-house, such as Killzone 2. While we're not necessarily opposed to having more than one review up for a game, with so many games out there to cover, it seems kind of silly to double up.

Four: Someone asks to review a game, gets the go-ahead, and never delivers. This happens far more often than you might think. People have lives, responsibilities, and obligations, and coming through with a review ends up getting pushed down their priority list.
*nods* I know that last one...well, not that I've been asked but I always have something that comes up when I actually sit down to do a user-review or something. I understand Susan. =)

Darn, so close.

Unlike everyone else who feels cheated, I actually live in North America. Just too bad I don't like anime.

3 Questions
1 does length of forum membership have any bearing on our chances?
2 if we have volumes of manga and anime dvds is that relevant to our chances and should be mentioned?
3 If we regularly attend an anime convention is that worth noting?

thank you

I'm thankful for this oppurtunity to let our knowledge of Anime and our writing skills to combine to create some really great reviews.

Just a few questions though,

I'm a student in a film and television program, and as such have access to industry standard sound and video equipment to produce video reviews. If we are selected to write for The Escapist on Anime, will there be any oppurtunity to produce video reviews in the future?

Kiel Chenier,

Probably not.

Question. Will the "lucky" winners have to watch the dubs? Because that would be too funny.
Yes. Reviewing an anime release means reviewing the quality of both original and dub voice acting.

Couple of questions.

1: When it comes to a series, are we reviewing the ENTIRE series, or just the particular box we receive?

2: Is there an exact criteria when it comes to the review or are we on our own?

3: Will all five reviewers share the same deadline or is it going to be spaced out relatively even?
1.) Just the particular box we send you. Can't review what you haven't watched :)

2.) There probably will be, it will be decided later.

3.) Again, this will be decided once we have a better idea of our review stable.

I would immediately jump on this if I had access to newer anime. I'm assuming that these reviews you want us to write are only 'auditions' and we will later have to watch new series and review those.
You assume correctly. We will be sending you the new releases.

1.) No.

2.) Couldn't hurt.

3.) Has no bearing.

Darn geography. And here I thought I could offer something fairly original, namely, negative reviews. I think most of it is crap you see. I would sure have liked a job consisting of telling people why it's crap. :3

Kay, I not want the job no more. Especially as just posting a standard "the dub was crap" every time would probably not cut it with you guys. <.<
noy evey dub is horible, yes while I agree they aren't usualy as good as the original, they aren't usually so bad they are unwatchable. I have actually watched one anime where the dub was better than the original, Eureka 7, primarily because Renton in the Japaneese version had the squeekiest voice.

It sucks being 17. Right on the edge of freedom. I am willing to hold a sign saying "Will work for free anime," but I guess those lame legal restrictions get in the way.

Works for me. I watch anime both ways anyways. :)

Question: I actually submitted my review samples while I was still a lurker with no account. Do I need to send a follow-up to tie those samples to this account name now?

Just a thought Funk but the reviews you've asked for wouldn't really reflect the work we'd be doing for the Escapist. 750 words is perfect for a single volume of anime or manga but for a full series it's very tight, especially for something like Full Metal Alchemist which runs to about 54 episodes if I remember correctly.

I shall heed this call. Wish I had FMA to review, but at least the alternates are in my DVD vault.

In that case...

The only DVDs I haven't watched yet are the handful on the coffee table that arrived today.

I swear you're actually moonlighting as a stock-room for a local anime-goods store.
