I'd be all over this if I actually watched any of those in-depth... or at all. My interest in Anime sharply dropped off right around 1997 when they released the TV series remake of Bubblegum Crisis (Tokyo 2040) and I was pissed they ruined my favorite 80s OVA (Megatokyo 2032) series of all time.

Consequently, almost all the Anime I have is from the late-70s & 80s and is on VHS... that's when I was into it hardcore. Even have the original VHS distribution of Vampire Hunter D from Orion Home Video in near-perfect condition. Wasn't even labeled as Anime or Japanimation, the back reads "The first Animated Horror Film for Adults."

By personal preference, I dislike many of the new art styles and the copy & paste themes and trends that are obscenely more prevalent nowadays. I just find them generally unappealing and boring. Unless its a comedy. I did get into Ai Mai Mi: Strawberry Eggs, Fruits Basket, and Azumanga Daioh for the sheer ridiculousness in the humor.

Anyway, good luck to whoever takes on this project.

I'm interested in applying, just wondering if there is a deadline for submitting our reviews? I like the one's selected, but they are somewhat cliche, would have been fun to do something like FLCL, Elfen Lied, or Paranoia Agent.

I went through an Anime faze in middle school.
Here's a brief look it. It all sucked except about 4 or 5 shows.
Really, you watched every bit of Animated work from the early... oh 50's 60's until the most recent stuff? in a few years? and your the absolute perfect judge?

No?

Well then SHUT UP! make judgements on the ones you've seen or shove your foot in your mouth.
Wow don't take it so personally actually I'm only seventeen and I've basically seen all the main anime shows, at lest the most highly revered ones.

Spirited Away, Ghost in A Shell, and Fullmetal were all great. It's the shows that are the most prominent in America that I hate, Naruto, Onepiece, Death Note (great until Misa Amane, came into the picture). No need to get so defensive.

(Sigh) The more I read the posts of the people applying the more I see my chances at getting this position slipping away.

Curses.

besides he's a frigging revolutionist for Japan. He invented the Horror, Ecchi, Magical Girl, and Super Robot Genre, Manga (Not the Genre themselves, just their use in manga). or at least is the most influential. He is the only guy who's ever had 5 series running in Shonen Jump Concurrently.
I wouldn't lay much of the Magical Girl genre at his feet. He invented the costume change transformation sequence*, but other than that Cutey Honey isn't really much like other magical girls.

* Naked Women again...

SOMEONE ELSE HAS ACTUALLY SEEN DEVILMAN!?

I watched it when I was 13 and collected Everything related to it even the Devilman Lady series ^_^ although the original series outclasses that by just being funny, Taro constantly pissing himself! :p

Has anyone seen Blue Sonnet Vs. The Red Fang and know where I can get a region 2/free version of it by any chance?

Oh, he certainly digs giant robots (who doesn't). Mazinger Z was the first proper Super Robot. (It remains to be seen what the new Mazinger series is going to be like)

Wait you watched a horror series when you were 13? Oh did you ever manage to read Violence Jack (Spiritual Successor to Devilman)
I doubt I was much more than about 13-14 when I saw Devilman. Best time to be watching gore, ultraviolence, and softcore porn. I think I still have the OVAs (and the Violence Jack ones) on VHS somewhere.
