Do you take part of any Rivalries? Or are you a Die Hard (___) until you die?

I'll admit of partaking to some pettiness. We aren't all perfect. And I really don't take it that seriously.

Just last weekend, I was in Chicago. People who think they can be rivals with us [https://www.wbez.org/shows/curious-city/second-city-the-origins-of-chicagos-oneway-rivalry-with-new-york/d13d563d-78e7-452a-a19c-249603f93602]. It amused me. To be in a city that has such a chip on its shoulder for us who are from NYC... and we barely remember you exist. It tickles me. [/shots fired]

And of course, as I just said, I was born in the Bronx. So any of you Brooklynites, we New Yorkers know it's NYC against the world... But we really know it's you against us. Come with it.

And one more time with location, I'm into fighting games. Those in the scene know we play this by strict 90's hip-hop rules. Midwest, Canada, Latin America... Yeah, we see you and we respect your skill. But that's not what it's about today. It's strict West Coast and East Coast. And I'm Beast Coast 24/7, baby. Whatchu know about that?

So sound off if you represent. And those of us who had to move for jobs, family, or whatever the reason, it feels good to say no matter where we are we're always going to go to bat for our people. NYC until I D.I.E.

But at the end of the day, yeah, I really don't care about it. But it's fun to play around. It's like Trashtalking your friends in fighting games. You love the people, but every once and a while you just gotta go "Yo. Yo! ... You trash, fam." to get that heated game. As long as you can hug it out in the end, it's all in good fun.

Escapist, Share your pride. Either respectfully or playfully, please. :)

No that I care about it but historically Argentina's had "brotherly" rivalries with Uruguay, Chile and Spain. Or rather, Uruguay and Chile have a one-sided rivalry with us. So does Spain, though I think that's a bit more requited. This is all strictly comment section trash talk though, and like most forum drama I don't think it's a thing that really transcends into real life.

That reminds me a show about food that talked about the history of pizza in America. And some point there was this part about Chicago pizza owners gloating about theirs being thick and loaded with ingredients to make it "real food" and not that "flimsy thingy" from NY or something like that. It left me confused and hungry.

Can I tell you that was tried on me? Like, I could see the pre-gloat that was "the New Yorker HAS to admit our superiority here!".

And I said very succinctly the truth: I don't like cheese. The deflate was real.

You fools! Everyone knows Detroit style pizza is the only way to live! End joke.

In all seriousness, I do enjoy all three style, but I do have a preference for Chicago or Detroit pizza.

I never took rivalries seriously. For example, Michigan vs. Michigan State. They're both great teams in football and basketball. Whenever they're facing each others; as long as both teams are at 100% motivation, it's win in either case. Unless your gambling or making bets. I did have one of those old DMC vs. God of War rivalries with some school mates, but that was mainly in good fun.

I'm not big on rivalries. The only ones I can really remember are the 16-bit console wars of the 90s (I was in the Sega camp) and to a lesser extent, the idea of a 'rivalry' between the Dreamcast and PS2. Suffice to say, I was on the losing side in both cases.

Apart from that, I guess I've sort of had internalized rivalries in terms of wikis (e.g. page counts) and writing - not very competitive, but in the latter, can't help but notice when people can far more reviews/faves than myself. I've had some internalized rivalries with certain authors, but been on the losing end.

Anyone seen Voltron: Legendary Defender, where Lance considers himself a rival to Keith, while Keith doesn't even know who Lance is? I'm Lance by this analogy.

Hhm.... Were you drunk when you wrote this Obsidian? Your grammar seems a little off and you're being a bit more "woohoo" with things here. (Stares intently at avatar)

You gotta respect south American FGC for KoF. They're just as good as the Koreans lol. They hardly ever do much in anything else though. And Canada has a few people who do well, just not enough to call it a scene. It's kinda like France but less French.

I?m from Columbus, Ohio and attended THE Ohio State University, so I?m a Buckeye through and through. All Buckeyes are genetically predisposed to despise the University and Michigan and those goddamn Wolverines; the rivalry between these two teams is long and thick (bow-chicka-bow-wow.) It?s so bad, some Buckeyes won?t even SAY ?Michigan,? preferring to refer to them as ?That Team Up North,? (often shortened to ?TTUN,?) even going so far as to not type or write the letter ?M? on game days, replacing it with a red ?X.? The year I was supposed to move into an apartment on campus with roommates, OSU hosted Michigan for the bitter rivalry. We won, and the result was literal riots. My roommates called to inform me there was a burning couch on the lawn; I informed them I would NOT be moving in. It?s true what they say: Buckeyes are, literally and figuratively, nuts.

I?m also a rabid San Francisco 49ers fan; I can?t stand the Dallas Cowboys. The late ?80s was when both teams were powerhouses at each other?s throats and when the rivalry burned hottest, but since then, both teams have been mostly bad to mediocre at best. It doesn?t matter; the hatred is strong. Doesn?t help that I moved TO Dallas almost 10 years ago; now I?m surrounded by their propaganda and obnoxious, fair-weather fans. The first year I was here, I went to a bar to watch the game; I was literally the only person in a bar cheering for the Niners. We were running away with it for most of the game, so I was gloating making absolutely NO friends (who cares; a sad Cowboy fan is a glorious thing to behold.) But at the end, the tides turned and the Cowboys came back to win, and oh my God... I was pretty drunk, but I recall a crush of smug people descending on my bar stool; there was finger pointing, laughing, someone almost spilled my drink; I summoned my drunk courage and actually threatened to ?beat their asses? and was asked by the bartender to call a cab and leave for my own safety.

I'll admit I'm not terribly well read on my Latin American Culture or History(though I know some countries history better then others, such as Brazil and Mexico), but I've gotten the distinct impression that none of the former Spanish Colonies, well, anywhere have particularly fond feelings for Spain. I remember visiting the Philippines a couple years back and they made no bones how much they despised the Spanish. Particularly because of the Casta system, which I know was implemented in both Mexico and the Philippines.

And yes, I'm aware the Philippines are not part of Latin America, but they were a Spanish Colony nonetheless.

I don't think it's something that comes into play very often or very seriously. At worst it usually boils down to people being prejudiced and dismissive but not hateful. Every country has its own take on the same language and basically everyone makes fun of every other accent, usually adscribing a behavioral or cultural stereotype to each based on how they sound. To be honest our biggest beef these past 30 years is probably who dubs The Simpsons best.

That's a rivalry?

I mean, okay, but I thought comparing Megabloks to Lego would be like comparing the Go-bots to the Transformers.

From my point of view, yes. But some people go for megabloks' cheaper prices and extra licensing, and those people are wrong

Eh, isn't Megablocks comparable to Duplo, not Lego?

Anyway, Lego is far superior, because obviously.

Sure we spent $84,000,000 on a QB who struggles to make routine throws, a defense that is elite until we hit a game that actually matters, a WR who threw a giant hissy fit and now wants to pretend like he never threw a hissy fit, you're all crazy!!!!, and a RB who is super awesome until he inevitably gets hurt at some point in the year but still...

So is your rivalry with the Vikings? front office? Mayhaps your expectations versus reality?
