This is something that has been bothering me and my perverted female friends for a while.
Theres no equality in fanservice at all, and we thought of a good way to get the point across in this industry would be to make a Suda51 style 'Parody'slash'Satire' game of fanservice, which The main character is a skinny young Man who is constantly in skimpy outfits and having really off-putting shots of his crotch, who has male friends who are also sexualized a lot which would be the several stereotypes of men and the only Female characters in the game would be Regular well developed characters A la April Ryan, with gameplay akin to Bayonetta just to push the knife further in.
But then we thought that this wouldn't sell at all, which makes sense.
What do you guys think? Would you want this? would you play this?

Edit: I fixed something i REALLY didn't want to say.
Just to be clear, I AM NOT A SHOTACON.

*looks at Snake's ass*
*tries to look away*
...
*can't*

"Feels like I'm wearing nothing at all!"
"Nothing at all!"
"Nothing at all!"

Uggghhhh... Stupid sexy Snake.

Yeah... It happens. They just can't be as blatant about it. I dunno... Go look up Cho Aniki or something. Good for a laugh, or a little more if you're into that, I guess.

Nice Lucifer avatar, by the way.

If it was a decent game with an interesting idea then I'd probably buy it. I didn't buy Lollipop Chainsaw because it featured a semi naked woman, it brought it because the trailers convinced me it was an interesting take on the zombie genre.

Even if it was basically Buffy fighting zombies with a chainsaw.

If VG Chartz is to be believed, the various flavors of SF4 have sold in excess of 7 million. So yeah, sexualizing males isn't a sale breaker...

Depends on what level, Solid Snake and Dante from DMC4 are sexualized and they sold well. I believe if they turned that up a little bit they could still sell. Though I'm not sure about OP's idea.

Though from the parody description I keep imagining this:

Final Fantasy and Japanase RPGs in general?
I remember reading a article here on the escapist that was a romance game from a girl's point of view.

You're a girl with bunch hot guys fighting for your love and it was JRPG so they were also squadmates as well(Kinda like persona games) it was very popular with women in Japan.

Bring those games stateside you could get more women gaming but also give the girls some fanservice.
Are you sure it wasn't Hakouki? That's a VN and nothing like Persona. If not I'll need to check it out (okay I admit it, sex sells. Only when there's a good game attached though).

Nope , because women are more mature than men , and have an easier time getting laid than men . Seriously , how many women do you see saying foreveralone .

Plus , even hot men are ugly . I still don't understand what women ( and some men ) see in men . We are hairy , smelly , bulky , awkward ,hideous creatures . Seriously penises are the ugliest things ever .

Disclaimer : don't take my post TOO seriously please .

Would that specific idea you laid out sell? Heck no. It's terrible.

But would a game with a sexualized male main character sell? Oh yes. James Bond is a good example. You could even create a new character who is like James Bond, but with that particular quality dialed up SEVERAL notches, and it would work.

I imagine sort of a cross between Tuxedo Mask, Bruce Lee, and...well, James Bond, with some extra flamboyancy thrown in. Have him play a guitar and lose his shirt in battles, like, all the time, and make him a cyborg vampire for good measure, and-- ohhhh yeah. That thing will sell like hotcakes. In fact, go ahead and make him smell like hotcakes too.

You can use this idea, by the way. I won't sue. :D

Oh yeah, if Collin Firth can have a career based on falling in a lake in a white shirt (BBC's Pride And Predudice) Then you can make a sexy male lead role.

Dunno where you come from, but that's not really what "sexualized male" means where I come from. More like "pedophile."

As I'm not particularly interested in looking at a "young boy"'s crotch, it'd have to be a helluva good game to make me buy it anyway.

Already been made.

But yeah, I'd imagine the world of Japanese visual novels and such have already effectively conquered the realm of sexualizing young boys as the OP has explicitly detailed...

I doubt it would have anything to do with sales. People don't buy games because the characters are "hot" or "sexy" they buy games because the game looks like it will be fun.

I'll buy a game with all naked men if Suda51 made it. I'd to to say "really though," but I would. The game you've outlined (Suda51-like)...I'd buy it if it was fun, featured key team members whose work I liked, or if it was recommended by people here. The protagonist's appearance can be pretty stupid (Tidus?) and it's not a dealbreaker for me.

Case in point: I didn't get Bayonetta because I thought she was sexy or because I wanted to see her butt for 10 hours. I knew the soul of the real Devil May Cry was in there, and Platinum Games, and that it would be a hell of a challenging and fun action brawler. I'd also like to think women are less...shallow about this kind of thing then men, if they want the real thing they make the rules about whether or not they get it. Men don't have that luxury, and will replace. I'm pretty sure Playgirl sells far less copies than Playboy does, for example.
