Does ad really makes sense?

On a personal and the shear amount we have to get through an ad doesnt really make sense in the term of value and time.
I usually hear that youtube and such get about 3-4$ or so for thousand of views.
so a thousand people wasting 30 seconds on an ad (so about 8h worth of time!!!) for a measly 3-4$?
im paying you less than penny/hour for my time? what?! Im sorry but no...
maybe I am overcalculating this but doesnt compute for me.

There's a reason a lot of content creators (including The Escapist Dot Com) that would rather just have their users pay a small amount directly rather than mess with ads...

yeah but if you really put it in money value its basically the same, ask everyone to pay 1¢/h to use youtube and such? ok then Ill pay 1$ per 3 month or so to not have ads

It's basically Communism

Everyone chips in a little bit and it snowballs into big money! Let's say an episode of ZP is $1000 (just to make it easy).

If I were the only one watching and paying for it, they need a lot of money from me to make it work. If 2,000 people watch and paying for it, it's way cheaper. It's not that ZP has less value because one scenario I pay $1,000 and the other scenario I pay 50 cents, it's about how much all that little change adds up.

I understand but I dont get how most place ask like 10$+/month to be ads free. that not how much ads give you in the first place?! Even if only 30% of person on youtube (or any other site) would give 5$ a year that would be enough, not this crazy amount.
