Does Code Vein have the worst story premise ever?

So, IGN's video on Code Vien entitled "How Code Vein is Dark Souls Done Differently [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C78Heoos26Q]" popped up on my Youtube feed and I decided to check it out to see what it is actually doing differently in regards to gameplay [spoiler: not much]. However, the plot premise of the game was discussed and it is the dumbest thing I ever heard. So a apocalyptic-level event happens and the surviving humans decide to turn themselves into vampires to survive...? What?! Vampires need HUMAN blood and HUMANS are now a RARE commodity.

Well depending on the apocalypse non-human food sources might be even more scarce. Like if 90% of the population of humans died but 100% of live stock and crops died, humans look mighty tasty.

It sounds like the game is aware of how stupid it is, and the problem that plan puts in place is what drives the gameplay/story. If that's how it's presented (And I suspect that's the case), I'm fine with it.

Related, the Vampire Hunter D series is set up on the premise that humanity screwed up royally, and the Vampires came into power over a dystopian landscape (And presumably blasted human populace) to fix everything. And that turned out ok. Sort of.

It would be surprising if they did release on PC. They were basically strong-armed into doing the Dark Souls games on it, a pressure that's unlikely to exert itself on a brand new IP (Unless it comes out and is great and then retroactively ported, like DS1) or the Armored Core crowd (While Armored Core has its fans, I don't think it's aged well. Certainly not enough to get PC players bent out of shape over).

Yeah, I don't really care about Armored Core. But they said that they're making a fantasy role-playing game and another different game than what they've made previously, which I am interested in.

Project 1: An action role-playing game with a dark fantasy setting similar to Dark Souls, but approached from a ?different angle?.

Project 2: A reboot of an existing franchise, with ideas inspired by Dark Souls and other previous franchises.

Project 3: A brand new IP that?s ?something different from what the company has been doing previously? and ?a bit weird?.
Honestly, those descriptions are so vague they're essentially meaningless, and not exciting in the least. But I guess that's coming from the perspective of someone who's opinion of From Software's work has been going down, not up.

There's not a lot to go on. It could have snowballed into that situation. It's hard to convince people not to transform if vampires are not only surviving better but also threatening them if they don't transform. Eventually, it just becomes a case where becoming a vampire and risking starvation couldn't be worse than what you're currently faced with.

It looks like a terrible idea cobbled together in a boardroom of people out of ideas trying to figure out what's popular with the youth these days. One can only imagine how it went down;

"Right people, we're out of ideas and we need a plan...we need something to sell, that ticks all the boxes on what's hot today. I want to leave this room with an attractive brief summary, an elevator pitch that shines with the words 'ALL the money.' Now hit me up with what you got!"

"Anime!"

"Ok. Good, nice try there, but you're forgetting that's what we do anyway. I meant other ideas we haven't thought of. Hit me up!"

"...Vampires!"

"Great! Yes! That's exactly the hack brainstorm material we need! Excellent work! Keep it coming."

"Dark Souls!!

"Brilliant! That is something I hear about everywhere, it must be popular! What else you got, people??"

"Uhhhh...ice cream!"

"Y...what?? Alright, I'll let that slide for now, maybe we can do something with it later. Gimme something else, something dramatic that all the kids love these days."

"Ehhh...hmmm, a...an...Apocalypse!!!"

"Fucking yes! Couldn't have asked for better myself...you're promoted, Stephens! This is profit-coated profit with profit flavoured filling; vampire dark souls apocalypse anime for all the kids to enjoy... let's make all the money, people...no time to waste! Don't bother with the story, we'll just make it up as we go along."

Either most humans die out, or a good chunk of humans turn to vampires, and safeguard the remaining humans. Humans turning to vampires should help with the survival of humanity in the long run, even if temporarily it ends up reducing their numbers.

I do wonder what's gonna become of FromSoftware as a PC developer now that their Dark Souls contract is up. Are they even gonna work with NamcoBandai anymore? Is that why Code Vein is so shamelessly derivative? I wouldn't be surprised if their future games were PlayStation exclusive.
Would suck.

''This game gives players the opportunity to face adversity and overcome it; something they are lacking in the real world'' heheh..you can't say this developer don't know his audience. :p

Game doesn't look great but still a bit better than other clones like Lords of the Fallen and The Surge. I feel that by giving the game an anime vibe they can get away with a stupid story. Though, the enemies and the combat just don't look exciting. Not to mention the backgrounds which looks like the most generic post-apocalyptic crap imaginable. Also I feel that by ''We are going to make a difficult game'' they are approaching it from the wrong angle since that was never the intent of the Souls games(or atleast the ones directed by the maestro).

You never know, maybe it will surprise but this looks like just another very mediocre action-RPG. I think the only game that genuinely did the Souls lineage some justice was Salt & Sanctuary and this was made by just a few people.
