i was thinking of buying a movie from itunes(which would be my first time) because the DVD of that movie costs more, and obviously i want the HD version. but it states that i have to make sure that my pc can run HD and that my monitor has HDCP support. my graphic card is a HD sepphire 7870, so this i believe should not be a problem. i was able to find out that obviously pc monitors do not have HDCP. according to this at least:
https://www.digitalconnection.com/FAQ/HDTV_12.asp

my monitor native resolution is 1920x1080. 21.5" in size. in case this helps.

so if TVs are the only ones supporting this, does it mean that if i would buy the HD version, my monitor will not show anything? will it download the movie on to my pc or only playable through itunes?
or is the SD version still good enough with sound and picture?

yes, i really dont know much about this stuff. thanks already in advanced.

HD 1080 is 1920x1080, so it will play on your monitor.
ok thanks. the HD version is 720. its really this HDCP that worried me a bit.
HDCP is an intel protocol to stop man in the middle attacks and basically if your monitor can get 1920x1080 then its is HDCP complaint. The protocol has been around since 2000 and has been supported on the pc since windows Vista.

im not sure i understand what you mean with "stop man in the middle attack"

but yes, my monitor max resolution is 1920x1080. thats what i have win 7 64bit running at and all my games.
ok, so i will give it a try and buy the movie then.

great, i get this message:
this cannot be played in HD on this computer.

if you buy the HD version, you have to transfer it on an HD compatible device in order to watch it. or, you can buy the SD version and watch it on this computer.

A man in the middle attack is putting a recording device between the monitor and the source and passing the signal through.

As a quick fix

Open iTunes ->iTunes Store shopping bag -> Purchased (not the Purchased playlist thing under the shopping bag). scroll
down -> un-check the box Download HD when available.

You should be able download your purchased in HD movies on your computer in non HD format.

Try connecting by hdmi cable, if you can. This isn't hardware problem this is itunes drm being stupid. as long as you meet the Windows system requirements for HD 1080p1 content

32 or 64-bit version of Windows 7 or Windows 8
iTunes 10.6 or later
2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo or faster processor
At least 2 GB of RAM
A video driver that supports HDCP, such as an Intel GMA X4500HD, ATI Radeon HD 2400, Nvidia GeForce 8300 GS, or better (you may need to check with the manufacturer to determine if your video driver supports HDCP)
A display that supports HDCP with a screen resolution of 1280 x 800 or higher with a digital connection (DVI, DisplayPort, or HDMI)

So as long as you aren't using an vga cable it should work

I swear I thought your monitor had DVI capability.

Here's the specifications for one of the few hits I got on Google for "S22C300" [http://www.samsung.com/br/consumer/it-products/monitores-displays/monitor-led/LS22C300FSMZD]. Is this Portuguese? And here's the translated page [http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=pt&u=http://www.samsung.com/br/consumer/it-products/monitores-displays/monitor-led/LS22C300FSMZD&prev=/search%3Fq%3DS22C300%26safe%3Doff%26es_sm%3D93] (English).

There are other variations like S22C300H and S22C300HS. Both of them have VGA and HDMI.

If you can get a DVI cable I think it would really open up the full potential of your computer. However, unless you can buy from good places like Amazon, DVI cables will probably cost around $20 and that's kind of a waste I think.

If both your PC and monitor can use HDMI they shouldn't cost more than $10 for a 2-meter cable, depending on where you live. The trick with HDMI cables is you shouldn't pay more than $10 (US), but you also want to avoid paying too little. I bought an HDMI cable once for $2 and I accidentally broke it because it was cheaply built.

well, i still keep the box of the monitor since its only 6 months old and therefor warranty on it and see if there is a HDMI cable. have to see if my card (which probably does)has a plug for this cable.
but now i like to know, can i have both cables connected?

I think the Samsung website states that only a VGA cable is provided, but it can't hurt to check.

As far as connecting two different cables from two different sources, there shouldn't be a problem manually switching between the two.

If your monitor is like my Samsung HDTVs then perhaps it's a touch sensitive button.
If you mean connecting both a VGA and a DVI or HDMI to the monitor -both- from your PC, I don't think it would break anything, but I suspect that would be wasting computing power. Your PC would think you were running two monitors at the same time and therefore your video card would probably be working twice as hard. If that is what you're asking, you're better off choosing one or the other.

-

If you mean leaving both cables plugged into the monitor but only one of the cables is coming from your PC, that won't cause any problems.

well, my monitor does have HDMI plug and i do have cables as well. even the motherboard provides one and my graphic card. but i havent tried it out yet. ok, so i can only have one cable plugged in so that the computer doesnt work too hard.
and yes, my monitor does have touch sensitive buttons.

well, maybe i will give it a try. otherwise i just stick to dvds and vga cable.
