I played through this game and did not find anything racist about it it's perfectly legitimate to have African zombies in Africa

It doesn't deserve its controversy, the only part that was somewhat controversial was the indigenious people that had spears, and sheilds....and WROTE IN ENGLISH?!?!?!!? Whatever, besides the point, I thought that no one has the right to call it racist.

How about this, they make a game in Africa with all white people! That would solve the probelm...most defintely!

The only thing that was controversial was the size of Chris' muscles. Wow. Just wow.

OK, lets see. Part 1-4 all anglo type people, part 5 in Africa and the people are black. I think I'd be offended if it was in Africa and every one was white.

I think people look for things to ***** about. I wasn't offended by anything but seriously once somebody brings up black people, apparently things get offensive. Don't even get me started with Grand Theft Auto where you are a black guy slaughtering honest hard working WHITE policemen who are only trying to do their jobs. I mean, if a crazed infected person is running at me with a knife, I don't care if they're black, white, Asian, Mexican, or anything. I'm going to try to defend myself. It's not like they're just standing around and he comes in and shoots them. It's just a game set in Africa and once a game tries to be a little bit creative everyone flips out.

It certainly doesn't deserve to be considered a good game, I can tell you that much.

Yet again, the problem was not that the zombies were black, it was how those black zombies were portrayed.

It might make sense from a narrative point of view to have all the infected villagers be savage and attack on sight, but when you step back from the game, it stirs up old colonial ideas of 'The Dark Continent'.

The native villages really don't help either.

No it does not deserve the controversy. Nothing is racist in the game, you just shoot people. RE4 did the same thing along with any other video game about two countries fighting each other.

This is in no way meant as racist or offensive, but isn't there actually places in africa, and other parts of the world, where people actually do live in small "old-school" tribes with spears and shields and stuff?

People just ran out of things to ***** about so they focused on something stupid. And hard as it is for these would be 'you are racists' types, there are still small tribes that do exist in Africa that can still be considered primitive. Just like everywhere else in the world. Likely because they rejected technology. Besides, I didn't hear anyone complain about RE4.

The REAL controversy is what in the hell happened to Jill's Hair?

She was very brown-haired in Resident Evil 1, incredibly ginger in Resi3:Nemesis, and now she's blonde? Teh hell?

Also, (spoiler alert btw) what will they do if they wanna do a Resi6 now that Wesker's dead?

And about the tribes having spears, I think it mentions in one of the documents you find in the game that the tribe was in fact not primitive at all until they were infected by Ouroboros, at which point their primitive sides surfaced.

Now we're getting offended by the way zombies are portrayed? They're zombies. If they weren't savage didn't attack you on sight something would be horribly horribly wrong here. Zombies are not people, racism is not possible here.

RE 5 does deserve flak, but not the kind it's getting. People should be criticizing it for abandoning the series' survival horror roots and for giving us a silly looking meat head and his annoying liability of a sidekick as protagonists. It's hard to take a game seriously with characters like that, especially if it's attempting to create a scary or tense atmosphere because the new Chris Redfield looks like he would be just as well of to crush the puny little handgun that he's holding on the box art and just go fist to fist with the zombie horde.

Not at all, if you notice. Your partner is African also. Any controversy that was aforementioned flew out the window as soon as you heard "My name is Sheva Alomar...."

I smell steroids...

And I don't think it deserves the controversy. The part in the marshlands, there are really parts in Africa where people live like that, well minus the zombies.
Its just that when the Virus that made them zombies caused them to revert back to their natural instincts, which was to dress up and fight like their ancestors.

As I said, in terms of the narrative it makes perfect sense.

Yep, when I heard Sheva speak in that horrendous 'African' accent I was won over. Have you never heard the phrase 'token black character'?

RE5 doesn't deserve the controversy in my opinion. Why? Because Capcom is just trying to make some money. They aren't racist. If you give me an RE game to design, I'd have the main character(s) and your partner be Native Americans killing only white zombies (starting in California)

All this controversy is just whinny little bitches with nothing else to do and trying to be "PC". But all their doing is making themselves look like dumbasses. Personally I think these people should shut the fuck up.

i have not played the game yet, but i do realize the contreversy surrounding it. i dont ever remember previous resident evil's being labeled racist. RE4 had latin decendents yet was received with open arms. the only reason this game is different is because it has african americans in it, if it was set in africa with all white infected would there be a contreversy then? no, (white) america is the only country that thinks the game is racist because we still hold african americans to a pedastal that they are sensative and should not be shown because they might be offended. i love the way capcom has shown this game, not racist, just historical.

It's not controversial at all. Some ppl are just pissed that the worst of africa is depicted. I supposed the devs should of shown a more upscale high society "zombie plague" infestation. Though really the gibberish and spears didn't help their case much. But really theres nothing blatent about it. If your playing it going man look at all these spearchuckers..then guess what . your looking at it in a racist fashion. Thats on you, not the devs, not me , or the majority imo of ppl that have honestly played the game. It could of been anywhere anyone it doesn't matter. Line um up and lets get to blasting some los plagas. >:D
