For me this is just about familiarity and memories. I'm a big nu-metal fan, and my music taste is pretty much stuck in the late 90s/early 00s. But a lot of those bands are still putting out new music today which isn't as good as the earlier stuff. I know before I even try listening to it that it won't be as good (I know!). It just doesn't capture that time of my life when music meant so much to me. (This could be paraphrased as 'I was young and everything was brighter'.)It just goes into the whole "new is bad, old is good" idea which is bullshit, generally.
