Don't Ask Strauss Zelnick About Grand Theft Auto V

If last night's enthusiastic "no comment" is any indication, Take-Two Chairman Strauss Zelnick may be getting just a wee bit tired of reporters asking him about Grand Theft Auto V.

Curiosity about the future of Grand Theft Auto is natural. It's Take-Two's premiere franchise and, wishful thinking and insistence to the contrary notwithstanding, the one on which the publisher lives or dies. With Grand Theft Auto IV well over a year old at this point, questions about what's next are bound to arise. A word to the wise, however: This may not be the best time to ask Strauss Zelnick about it.

Zelnick's mood may not have been ideal to begin with, given that Take-Two had just reported a 68 percent revenue decline, resulting in a $55.5 million net loss for the third quarter of the company's fiscal year. Whatever the case, when a reporter on last night's earnings call asked him when Grand Theft Auto V would be announced, the Take-Two Chairman was emphatic in his response.

"We're not going to announce it," Zelnick said. "We're not going to announce when we're going to announce it. And we're not going to announce the strategy about announcing it or about when we're going to announce it either, or about the announcement strategy surrounding the announcement of the strategy. Any other questions?"

No, Strauss, I think that pretty well covers it.

Why would they announce their strategy of the announcement of an announcement anyway?
And now the word announce sounds funny.

Well, everyone announces that they have an announcement! It's to build hype and questions on the announcement will be.

Also, Announce.

It's kind of early to announce GTAIV in my opinion anyway. One more expansion and that should do it for IV. 2 released in the space of two years is kind of a big enough space between them anyway.

Okay, seriously, that was a mouthful. He could have taken all of those times he's said announce, and just said "No Comment At This Time" See? Not that hard. And you didn't have to say announce!

Well if you say no comment, that just means you are going to announce something, but saying what he said, in a short translation, "We aren't saying anything that could lead to any speculation, period!"

Despite not caring much for the GTA games after Vice City, I really like his comment there, I'm imagining him in a trashy Hawaiian shirt holding a broken bottle.

GTA5 wont happen until they release a load of sequals that are the REAL next numbers but because they were 'before' 4, they apparently dont count. The REAL GTA4 is Vice City and GTA5 is already out. GTA7 is what people want, but the confusing numbering style messed everyone up.

Mm, yes and no. As far as I've been following it, they tie a new number to the games whenever a new engine is used. Vice City and San Andreas were both built on the GTA3 engine, with GTA4 being a complete rebuild.

So we might get some other GTA:Crazyfuntimes or whatever before we get GTA5, since, again, they'll probably be using the GTA4 tech to run it on.

Or I guess the DLC will be filling that niche for now.

Yea, he should've paid attention to the Bush administration. They were real good at that. So good that if they were at all convincing everyone would've thought they had amnesia or at least were hardcore 24/7 potheads.
So, does this mean that they're going to keep beating the dead horse of Liberty City? I don't want to buy overpriced dlc; I want a new game.

They add a new number whenever they come back to Liberty City.

Actually, apparently each number is a DIFFERENT GTA timeline, atleast according to the stupid fanboys. The order is Vice City, San Andreas, then 3. According to GTA4, the main characters are all dead. But its 'not considered canon in the GTA3 timeline'
Though this is just fans who need to be smacked, not Rockstar. Really they should just use the names instead of numbers. Sequal numbering needs to be standardized. Atleast TES knows how to.

They need to go back to their funny roots in GTA 3, the gritty reality GTA is just boring.

Given how much he's probably been asked about it, I'd say that was very well done of him.
yeah i agree with you, i'm sure he's asked every single interview about it, so it would get rather annoying

I heard rumors that GTA 5 is already one year and a half in developement. Knowing it cam from Michael Pachter, I'd say it's pretty reliable.

He better announce that they're putting some fun back in I was kinda pissed off by the GTA4. It was boring the cars didn't drive as well as in previous games and I did'nt like getting smashed out the window when I crashed the characters were unlikeable or annoying with constant calling there wasn't as much to do in a smaller less diverse world and the radio wasn't really worth listening to.

I picked up Saints Row 2 second hand and ended it playing it non stop for a week but I had to force myself to play GTA 4 to try to get some of the value out of it since I bought it new.
