Hell on Earth [https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=x4h3gtsXoD8] never looked so good.
Very curious about the hub area too, and finding out more about Doomslayer?s history.
Also it?s nice to see dev?s that appear to actually be kicking back and having fun with their game, and just playing it like anyone would vs some showy ?presentation? full of pomp and scripted bs.
I'm curious what they will do with heaven since it looks like there are at least a few levels there. Angels need their asses kicked too.
I'm not sure I like the 1up mechanics. I tend to find death systems like that annoying, I do like there is a limit but in general I don't like them unless the game manages its difficulty perfectly. For instance, I don't like the defib mechanic in Rage 2, unless I'm playing on ultra nightmare where the enemy can kill you in a second. Then it feels like it belongs, otherwise it just makes things feel too easy and without stakes.
Hmmm, what kind of profound philosophical questions will storming Heaven raise? What would go through the heavenly host's heads when they are faced with the Doom Slayer? I mean, aside from his bullets and/or his fist.

I guess that heaven wants to punish sinners using hell and the Doomslayer is effing that up. But that might get too controversial when you stop to think about real life Christianity.
Are you implying that I want Doom Guy to go to heaven so he and Bayonetta can secretly date behind Samus Aran's back!
How could you dare to even consider such a thing, they are a match made in... guns. No Umbra Witch no matter how flexible, gun having and demon controlling could hope to compete.

Hell's just what we're calling another dimension in Doom, always has been (except for the movie, which featured no hell and was incredibly stupid). The main time it ever got overtly religious-themed was the final boss of Doom II [https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/doom/images/0/03/Iconofsin_large.png], the Icon of Sin, which was a giant Baphomet head and also visible in Doom '16 if you know where to look. Point being it's no more related to the Judeo-Christian idea of Hell than the Warp in Warhammer...the Warp is actually closer since it's explicitly the Realm of Souls and referred to by name as Hell in the amazingly awesome bit I'll spoiler below.
During the Battle of Signus Prime, Sanguinius (Primarch of the Blood Angels, literally has wings and looks like an angel) gets his ass beat severely by a pair of Daemons, the Bloodthirster Ka'Bandha and Keeper of Secrets Kyriss. He's knocked unconscious and the psychic backlash causes the Blood Angels to go into a berserker rage, killing everything in sight. But a group of Librarians (psykers) use forbidden arcane abilities to reawaken Sanguinius, who proceeds to go full-on incarnate god mode.
So, round two against Ka'Bandha (who is somewhere between the first and third most powerful Bloodthirster in the galaxy) and Kyriss. Sanguinius takes flight and comes crashing into the defiled cathedral where the two daemons are lurking in a storm of glowing glorious vengeance. Without so much as looking at Kyriss, he hurls his sword at the daemon, impaling it and nailing it to the wall to deal with later. He wants Ka'Bandha, and in the words of the Doom comic, "THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH YOU THAT I CAN'T FIX WITH MY HANDS". The Primarch then proceeds to beat the ever-loving shit out of the Bloodthirster, ripping off one of its wings, telling it "Only angels may fly." The Angel of Baal then drags Ka'Bandha by the throat to the Warp rift in the cathedral floor. Lifts the Daemon up to look it square in the eye, and hurls it back into the Warp with the single most kickass one-liner in history: "If you do truly hail from the realm men once called Hell, when you return there tell you kindred it was Sanguinius who threw you back."
Ka'Bandha has been out for revenge on the Blood Angels ever since. And it goes poorly for him every time.
As for Heaven and/or angels? Forget the traditional winged humans, if we're going biblical it gets weird. Angels appearing to humans always lead off with "Do not be afraid!", because they're described as some seriously eldritch shit. Wheels within wheels covered in eyes (the Ophanim), four-winged entities with the faces of a man, an ox, a lion and an eagle (Cherubim), and luminous serpents so bright that they shield their bodies with their wings, of which they have six or twelve (Seraphim).
Hmmm, what kind of profound philosophical questions will storming Heaven raise? What would go through the heavenly host's heads when they are faced with the Doom Slayer? I mean, aside from his bullets and/or his fist.
Those are good questions. And since this is Id, and a sequel to Doom 2016 at that, don't expect those questions to even be touched upon.

Angels being jackasses has been done before in games - Diablo and Darksiders come to mind. Neither of them generated much controversy with their take on angels/Heaven. I doubt there'll be much humdrum this time, even though a trailer did indicate that that was the case ("it is their turn/time to suffer" or something like that).
