DOOM Open Beta Begins April 15, Season Pass Announced

//cdn.themis-media.com/media/global/images/library/deriv/1309/1309555.jpgThe open beta for DOOM kicks off next weekend, and Bethesda has announced a Season Pass for DLC.

If you missed out on last weekend's Closed beta test for DOOM, you'll get your shot at trying out the upcoming shooter next weekend. The open beta will begin Friday April 15 and conclude Sunday April 17.

It will include the same content as the closed beta: two game modes (team deathmatch and Warpath) across two maps (Heatwave and Infernal). Players on all three platforms (PC, PS4, and Xbox One) will be able to jump in.

Bethesda also announced their plans for post-launch DLC content. It's a mix of free and paid DLC, with player-created content available at no cost. id will also add updates to SnapMap, the software players will use to create content, free of charge. In addition, all new multiplayer game modes will be free.

The three paid DLC packs will bne priced at $14.99 each. As you might expect, there will also be a Season Pass available at $39.99 that will net you all three. The first of these packs is due "this summer" and will include the following:

Three new maps
One new weapon
One new playable demon
One new armor set
One new piece of equipment
New hack modules and taunts
New customization colors and patterns

If you checked out the closed beta, what did you think? Is DOOM on your must-buy list?

Please, Bethesda... please don't turn this game into a multiplayer franchise cash-cow.

I love Doom, it's one of my all-time favorite computer games. Don't smother my childhood with a pillow of sleazy, "exclusive" DLC; Good extensive content is not structured around maximizing profit. I'm not yet able to tell which path you are going with this; don't disappoint me.

Well, this royally pisses me off. I almost never pre-order games - I made an exception with Wolfenstein: The New Order, as I the pre-order came with early closed Beta access to DOOM.

Well, apparently they lied, because I never got an E-Mail from them, and they have not responded to any of my E-Mails, with the closed Beta now at an end. So thanks for lying to me again, Bethesda. I really appreciate it.

I played in the closed beta and in my opinion it just wasn't good, announcer voice is annoying as well.

:/ That's fucked up man, I'm sorry they screwed you over. What's worse is that there were people like me that got invites to it that didn't even sign up for it or preorder Wolfenstein. If it makes you feel any better, you weren't missing a whole lot. While I liked the amount of customization you get, the actual gameplay didn't feel like much to write home about.

It might've had the speed of old arena shooters but the lethality of the weapons was a joke (it took multiple direct hits from the rocket launcher and shotgun to kill anything), and they borrowed things from modern shooters that like pre selected loadouts and stuff. Don't know if you don't like that last detail, just seemed worth mentioning since I see lots of people that seem to dislike that feature.

It is alright - just goes to show that I should not have been a sucker. :p I will just wait to see how DOOM turns out, and likely wait for one of Green Man Gaming's deep discount vouchers to show up.

Offcourse, Bethesda has to go as far as making the DLC overpriced.

What worries me about such DLC's is the fact that they arent catered towards singleplayer.
Maybe it iwll be available in the mapping tool, but it is still something I dislike.

I don't think it's unusual for Doom. the Plutonium Project and other 'expansions' were just mission packs equal to DLC in today's games.

It really isn't. Both Doom and Doom 2 (and even Doom 3) had their equivalent to DLC back in the day. What is unusual is the absurd price Bethesda is asking for these packs. Fifteen dollars for a couple maps, some new items, and some skins is really lame. But then, I expect this from Bethesda. Their DLC practices are almost as bad as 2K's.

Even so, I'm still keeping my pre-order for Doom. Only cost me $40 (thanks Amazon Prime), and I won't have to wait months for it to go down in price.

I look forward to all of the DLC being packaged together, later this year, at the same price they're going for individually.

I enjoyed the Beta last weekend, the gameplay was fast-paced and fluid with a strong emphasis on mobility but the maps were refreshingly 'old school' (which is to say rooms and caverns linked by intertwining corridors rather than the current trend of open-air arenas scattered with cover items). Ok, it wasn't perfect, but I'd happily jump into Doom's multiplayer rather than into any of the current Halo/CoD/Battlefield offerings.

It's a shame that they're going down the paid DLC route, but at least they've said that user creations are going to be free (echoes of swapping Doom WADs on 3.5" in the schoolyard, anyone?) so there will hopefully be a strong community built around custom creations.

I will be honest here: I feel a little disappointed with the whole thing.
But as I said many times in the past I don't care because it is something optional. Hard truth, but this is the reality.
With that said...........if they have the clasic Armor in one of those DLC, I will be MAJOR piss off.......then I will buy it if I love the multiplayer....

Btw, we need an Armore from the Anime Version of DOOM:

Which platform did you pre-order on? If it was on Steam, the beta should have just appeared in your library, no code or email required.

Through Steam. Closed beta never appeared on my account.
