DoTA 2 "Reborn" Into a New Engine, New UI, and New Features

DoTA 2's "new engine" is presumably the long-awaited Source 2 engine.

Valve has just announced a rather expansive update to it's popular MOBA: DoTA 2 [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/tag/view/dota%202]. Dubbed "DoTA 2: Reborn" the long-speculated update will bring a new engine, new UI, and heaps of new features to the game.

"Everything in the dashboard has been completely redesigned utilizing a new UI framework, and the engine that powers the game has been fully replaced," said Valve in a Source 2 engine [http://blog.dota2.com/2015/06/dota-2-reborn/], which will be made available free for content developers when it fully releases.

DoTA 2: Reborn will first be made available as a beta, separate from the original game. "Throughout the beta we'll be releasing frequent updates in order to fix bugs and make changes based on the feedback you provide. As you browse around in the new client, you'll notice a few things that aren't fully functional yet. Additionally, our focus has been on the dashboard so you'll find the in-game HUD currently looks the same," explained Valve.

You can check out some of the new features in the beta, including custom games and a fully revamped tutorial, here [http://www.dota2.com/reborn/part1/]. More information will be revealed throughout the week.

The beta itself should launch at the end of the week.

I weep at the majesty of the new client, though it makes me slightly bitter - I want LoL to get a new client already, damnit. Pretty much everything ELSE about the game has been updated at this point...

The first new Source 2 game is an engine update for DotA 2? Thanks Valve.
Really smart way to test out the new Engine, and show it off to us, and more importantly other devs.

Since I don't care about DOTA 2, I want this to happen to CS:GO. It probably will in the future. But I want it as soon as possible because it's new and I like new things.

Neat. Next, give the community a 'rebirth' and maybe you'll have something worth playing.

Is the LoL client STILL on Adobe Air? Thought they would have fixed that by now.

Polished as fuck. I'm looking forward to the details on custom games and the engine overhaul.

I look forward to the endless complaints that the update ruined the game
This is possibly the most excited the community has ever been. But of course its dota, we'll find something.

I knew this was coming, have known for months, but....holy fuck that's a slick new client UI. I'm especially digging the new tutorial features, the "try a hero" option (that also includes the ability to test out cosmetic items in game before buying), and the new spectating systems. Actually cracked a smile of surprise when I saw that the new spectate game list has updated-in-real-time animated map displays for the games.

The new lobby search feature's also a nice touch, as is the new "Play Dota" button. Keeps everything neat, simple, and centralized within the UI.

I'm mildly interested in the reveal of the next part of the update - the custom games portion - but I'm more anxious to hear about the new features possible in Source 2. Naturally, Valve's saving that for the last part of the update reveal. :/

Regardless, it's all very enticing. I haven't seen the Dota 2 community this excited for an update since....well....since the game left closed beta.
