Dr. Phil Yells At Woman For Her FarmVille Addiction

You have a ridiculous addiction to a ridiculous computer game that's interfering with your ability to be a mother. Close your accounts. Get out of FarmVille. Reintroduce yourself to your family. Cook a meal. Go on a date. Go to a movie. Go jog. Go sit out in the backyard and watch the grass grow. Do something. Actually, maybe start a garden for real.

You'll notice that none of that advice includes watching Dr. Phil's show.
this could just be a subtle hint that a dr. phil movie is in the works

I thought the new one was "Fishville" or something. One of my friends left a party once, (yes a fucking party) to go home and feed his fish.
So if you don't feed the fish, they die? Can you watch the fish suffer and slowly waste away and die of starvation?

Anyway, I thought he was supposed to help people? Yelling at someone and telling them to get a grip does fuck all.
That is pretty much his style of doing things, he himself even jokes about it at times, that all he does is tell(yell at) people to get real and stop doing stupid things.

He's pretty much an international Dad character, he does what fathers do (atleast alot of them).

Reading the second half of that surprised me. I didn't find him once directly say "Be a real woman!" though there certinally was the implied "Get back in the kitchen." bit.

My question is who the hell would take this guy seriously in the first place? It's Dr. Phil. That's a recipe for a crock of bullshit and some unsubtle pseudo-psychoanalytical phrases tossed out to a hungry TV-fed audience. Whether he's attacking Farmville or people who haven't been taught about contraception and find themselves pregnant he's still a tabloid-journalism sensationalist.

I don't get all this respect. Think about it. DR phil. People go to him when they have a problem. And this is an addiction. How about trying to solve the underlying problems that make her addicted in the first place?
Just because this is in opinion a shitty game, makes it less bad if she was addicted to a good game?

Also stop watching dr Phil.

"There aren't really any crops," Dr. Phil informed her. "That's just a little image on a screen. They're not going to die."
There isn't really a Dr Phil. He's just an image on a screen. That which does not exist cannot be relied upon.

The problem I find with the people supporting this is the assumption that Dr. Phil talked like that because it was Farmville. Any other game he would treat the same way. Many people (and I am inclined to think him as well) see video games as a waste of time compared to "real" interactions.
I've seen him do that to every addiction, sometimes even games. Philly is a bit narrow minded when it comes to certain things, but he does have a knack for making points

As I'm living together with my girlfriend, she often steals the remote to switch to Dr. Phil, even here in The Netherlands it's become quite popular. There are some subjects that I agree on, but really now? A FarmVille addiction? I can't think of anything lamer than that (apart from drugs, tobacco and fat). I wouldn't advise watching the show either, for it's way too boring after the first five minutes. I'll just stick with my gameconsoles and movie collection.

Dr Phil is just odd. His mono tone voice just makes me want to go to sleep. If people want help they should seek out professional help that isn't viewed all over the world. I do agree that a farmvill addiction is not good though.

My gran'ma is addiced to a game series called Westward. She plays it 8 hors a day, every day for 2 years. I'm going to have to concider this as hardcore gaming.

Dr. Phil just got a whole lot more respect.
... How many of you would be saying this if he was talking about Half-life or something. You do realize that he's saying that adults playing video games are weirdos, right?

Just because he happens to be talking about Farmville, which apparently isn't a good game, it doesn't make the attack any more admirable.

I just have to question how you people can jump at Jack Thompson's throat for saying the exact same thing about different games, when you applaud Dr. Phil for this.

Its weird how people actually agree to make an ass of themselves on TV.

Its even more weird how people like Dr. Phil exploit it para mucho dinero. Makes me wonder about the world now-a-days.
