I know it is a little soon after with my last forum topic but I recently finished my rented copy of Dragon Age: Origins and need to know this before sending it back to Gamefly.

The basic outline of the story doesn't change, but each Origin is quite different and there are quite a few details both large and small that change throughout the game if you make different choices. So, it's sort of both yes and no.

There's at least two or three different ways to complete each of the big story missions. So I'd say that warrants SOME replay value. Not to mention each race/origin has different dialogue, while it's pretty insignificant, it lend quite a bit to the immersion.

And then there are going to be people who say that a game cannot have that be the only reason to return to the game (those being the no crowd), and those that would say what more reason do you need to return to it ofer than replaying it for the sake of it (that being the yes crowd). The fact that the game mentally dropped off the face of the Earth after finishing it probably puts me in the former so thank you. You gave me everything I needed to know in your answer to send it back.

As others have said the story is worth replaying over but I think the game mechanics are interesting enough to make it worth replaying too. If you crank up the difficulty it makes it interesting to try different character and party builds and setups, the synergy between the four party members and their skills leaves loads of room for experimentation.

You can try setups like no healer, tank + DPS archers or rogues backed up by DPS mages. Mix that with the story and you can get at least two or three playthroughs. Even just making a starting char for each race and background section is several hours of gameplay for all of them, thats without carrying on with the whole game afterwards.

Yes.

Here's the thing: You can play as difference races. You can be human, elf, and dwarf. Depending on who you choose to be, people will react differently to you. As you also know, your actions can also drive people away from your party. Who you side with for big sidequests also affects the last battle and some items you can get. And then if that's not enough, there's Awakening and some fun DLC lying around.

I guess it depends. To me, that was a great incentive for me to keep it, if only because that game was really long for me (Around 60 hours?). I'm not one to replay my games right away but if I ever replay it, I know I won't be doing the same things I did before. If that appeals to you, then sure. If you're looking for a different kind of replay value, like the kind a FPS would offer, then no.

Depends on how much you liked it, but it usually is worth a second play through to see a different origin story and how different choices throughout the game play out.

Anything you enjoy has replay value.

That said, you can play again as a different race with a different origin, pick a different class and make different story choices.

No, none at all (he says while in the middle of his 3rd replay).
If you want to do things differently (different race, class, choices) and you enjoyed the game, then yeah, it has replay value. I'm replaying it now because I want to replay Dragon Age 2 and want to import my save. Why don't I just use one of my other DA: O saves? Because I dropped my old hard drive. :(

On PC yes. On console no. I don't think I could ever face the Fade again...with PC I don't have to. Plus your copy is rented so you are missing the best character. Shale makes everything better, Shale and Lilliana make it the best.

It barely has first play value.

That game has so much bland repetitive filler.

This was not the spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate that I was looking for.

Considering my girlfriend has completed this game around sixteen times, I would say yes, yes it does.

It is good for two playthroughs, three if your really good at RP, if you are doing a second playthrough do it with a mage, the changes in dialogue are cool, also, if your on the PC there is a mod to skip the really long and bring fade bit in the mages tower during the main story.

Yes. Try playing with a different gender/class/origin. It makes all the difference. My head canon is a rogue human male. But then I played a female human mage and it was like a whole new experience. The amount of dialogue in this game is astonishing.

Are you on pc?

If so, you could just use The Dragon age Save Generator.
