Dragon Age Origins. Which platform?

I've given Dragon Age Origins a whirl today on my lunch on the 360 (it came in on delivery) but I am at a cross roads, so many people have told me to opt for the PC version as it'll be better (playing style), but then I do like my achievements.

Does anyone on the Escapist know what the different play styles are between the console version and PC? From what I got of the 360 version today, I'm really not sure what to compare it too, you attack with A and your skills (Mapped on X Y and B) have a cool-down when using them. A friend in work told me the PC version will be more "tactical" but couldn't really expand on it, so I put my trust in you, Escapist Community!

Well, here's my approach to the situation. My computer meets the specs to run the game almost at the highest settings.

My experience with such knowledge means that the game will probably only run at an acceptable frame rate on the lowest settings.

So, I'm getting the 360 version to enjoy the game without technical hassle. Should the game prove to be fun/exciting/etc. I'll opt out and purchase the PC version. So the graphics wont be "spectacular." It's been compared visually to Oblivion, which is fine by me.

If I were to choose between the different platform I would have to go with the PC if only because the game (Havnt played it yet) seems as though there will be some really good mods out for it in the future. And that is the problem with the 360 or PS3. you are alot more limited on the mods that you can get.

Go for the PC you also get the dragon age toolset
control wise pc is abit like an RTS where you have a top down view and control each character individually rather than basic group commands plus it also supports the normal console scheme so you have a choice on the pc version which the console won't.

I would say go for it on the PC if you have the specs, same for almost all games.

My PC's sound doesnt work. I'll take it down to PC world, but if that doesnt work, I'll have to get it for the PS3, which it £13 more than the PC version.
I'm not a happy bunny.

If my PC was good enough, i would SO get the PC version. Sadly i haven't to money to upgrade or make a gaming rig so i'm getting it for my 360. It should be a fun game anyway, i don't really care about mods and i'm not much of a graphics whore.

Friday can't come any faster can it? UGH.

Ah, the joys of Steam. I'm not sure if my current gaming laptop has the specs to handle DA:O on recommended. If not, I'll just wait until I can build a monster gaming PC and play it from Steam then.

It somewhat reminds me of Bioshock. I first got Bioshock on Steam. I wasn't too happy with it graphically, but I still had a great time playing it. Story transcends graphics. Anyway, I got home for Christmas break and found that my brother had gotten it for the 360. Played it again, and was much more impressed. The 360 graphics were much batter than what my laptop had produced. I'll enjoy what I can for now, and relish the game in a better medium later.

P.S.- It's at 10% now, 45 minutes after I bought it. Hurrah!

I got the PC, mainly due to the lack of a console that would run the game (read: 360 or PS3), but after reading some news, I'm glad I only have that option, with the ability to pump the texture res higher than consoles and the Baldur's Gate style camera (that alone would sway the decision for me, brings back so much nostalgia).

Go for the PC version. Not only is it the best version due to tactical view (allowing for the best use of AoE speels), but the 360 version is apparently the worst of the three versions.

My PC can't handle anything more advanced that NWN, so I'm sticking with my 360 version. And after playing through my origin story, so far I'm super happy. It sucks to miss out on the mods, but maybe I'll pick it up for the PC too, if I can ever afford to get once advanced enough to run the darn thing. I also generally prefer console controls to PC ones. Mass Effect played much easier on the 360 than the PC, and I had no difficulties during my Mage origin story.

My PC can't handle anything more advanced that NWN, so I'm sticking with my 360 version. And after playing through my origin story, so far I'm super happy. It sucks to miss out on the mods, but maybe I'll pick it up for the PC too, if I can ever afford to get once advanced enough to run the darn thing. I also generally prefer console controls to PC ones. Mass Effect played much easier on the 360 than the PC, and I had no difficulties during my Mage origin story.

The good thing about being a few years behind on PC gaming (and gaming in general) means everything is super cheap. Neat ain't it?

i know im not answering the posters question and instead asking the same one again
...but i was also wondering which platform to get it on... apparantly the PC one is significantly better but i doubt my Pc would even run it...
Freestly seemed to say the Pc version had

what i want to know is:
a) does the PS3 not have the ability to zoom out to baldurs gate style camera distance?
b) will the PS3 version be more like the Baldur's Gate games on the PS2(Dark Alliance) and less like the PC ones

I still have Baldurs Gate I, II and all the expansions for the PC so I doubt ill get it if its vey similar to them as i have other games that need to be aquired, and i still have BG: Dark alliance II for PS2

Anyone any helpful ideas?

I would have liked to got it on the PC but my laptop probably couldn't handle it well, so I went with the PS3 version. I originally had the 360 preordered, but according to Gamespot's review the Ps3 has better textures, fuller colors, and faster load times. Apparently the 360 version had to be compressed too much for it's own good, resulting in the worst looking version(though it's suppose to have a better frame rate than the ps3).

Also, I was reading a live blog with the developers and they said they would *look* into bringing mods to the ps3, depending on Sony. This sounds like the PR guy didn't want to flat out say no, but with the possibility for it Ps3 went up another notch.

Hehe, my copies of NWN and BG both date back to their release. But I did pick up Deus Ex well after its release, and yes it was quite cheap.

well if you want better graphics then go for the pc version. Also on pc you get the camera angle from baldurs gate. Otherwise there are no differences
