Best not to question it, usually they show up eventually.

Quit encouraging them, that helm needs to be wiped from existence.

When I saw the Dovakhin actor it killed it for me. Terrible casting choice the dude is ottermode at best. Does he even lift?

Actually well-done and not akward to watch!
Goodjob!

Although, like everyone else, i did get the distinct impression that the villagers set fire to half of the village before the Dragon even showed up...
:p

But hey, that helmet is going to have to be good in-game...
They sell it so much!
Actually, it's just the basic iron helmet. You can tell if you pay close attention during the hands-off demo.

OT: That was a pretty cool trailer, if a bit clichéd.

Sure, the Halo 3 diorama ad [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vjhSp7xGsMc] was haunting and effective, and a brilliant swerve for gamers more accustomed to footage of actual gameplay, but at what point did publishers decide that live-action was the best way to advertise a product that is the antithesis of real-world footage?

No hypotheticals there. I'd actually like you to think about that, and throw out your best ideas as to why this advertising shift has occurred.
What advertising shift? You're talking about it like every single publisher does nothing but live action adverts. Having not seen the Halo ad you're talking about, this is actually the first live action trailer that I've seen as far as I can remember. To be fair, I might be forgetting one or two, but the ratio is still absurdly in favour of normal (CGI/game engine) trailers.
Agreed.

OT: It's to attract a non-gaming audience. Think about it from the standpoint of someone who doesn't play games: the graphics look artificial. It looks like a cartoon or a children's toy. If you just show game play it will probably look even more like an insider thing. They're just trying to expand their audience. They're saying that the game has a real story in a way that can appeal to someone who doesn't usually play games.

I'm not saying it's going to be effective. But I also think that it's perfectly valid to try to draw in people who don't usually play games with this sort of thing. Sure, within the gaming community people want to see actual game play, but I'm not with this "gamers vs. non-gamers" thing. It's a stupid distinction. Frankly the term 'gamer' is a bit overused imo. Anyone can play games, you don't call people who go to movies on a regular basis 'moviers', that's just silly. Let's not be elitists about our hobbies people. If you say gaming is a lifestyle then you might have taken the hobby a bit too far. But that's a different issue.

At around 0:30 a guard removes his helmet to scream "Run!". I guess it was enchanted with the Silence effect from Oblivion.

Its a Wyvern, not a dragon, cause no front legs!
Who's to say that a wyvern can't simply be a variation of dragon? Besides, that's the Elder Scrolls terminology you want to complain about? Have you seen their trolls?

Not bad, but honestly I liked the other trailer better, you know, the one where "Uncle Dovakhin" seemed to be cross eyed and miss the dragon with his shout.

So, back to topic: what's the subliminal Message out here:
1) Be careful about straw => it burns easily.
2) Don't store your (high proof) booze close to the bonfire => drink it instead
3) ???
7) Profit, Dragons!

Seems more like one of those educational videos you saw at school.

So remember kids, in case of Dragonfire: Stop, drop and roll.

Oh. Thanks, I always wondered what the difference was.

Still, they both fly and breath fire, but I guess one probably has better hand writing.

There an many different definitions on what makes a Dragon or Wyvern being they are fictional.

I always subscribe to the definition:
If it's a Lizard with wings and breaths fire, ice or whatever else, it's a Dragon.
If it's a snake with wings, it's Wyvern (doesn't have to breath anything).

That definitely is more of Lizard than snake, therefore Dragon.
Sorry to not pay the topic of the article any attention, but.......

What would you get if you crossed a dragon with a wyvem?

Here's a fun little thing to do while playing the trailer. Lower the volume on the trailer, then play this song while watching it:

Seriously, give it a go as this song does have the strange ability to make anything that it's played in epic. You know how Guiles theme goes with everything? Well, Forces makes everything epic.

A bit more on topic: Damned good trailer, i enjoyed it and it's gotten me just a bit more hyped about it...even though i'm already hyped as all hell to start with.

Reminds me how much I hate that ridiculous looking helmet they insist on using for the character in all the demos, and now this. I don't care if it's nord themed, it looks stupid, quit it.
What annoys me is the utterly impractical way the dude carries his sword. Notice the "clever" cutting to hide how awkward it would be to actually draw it over the shoulder like that.

Indeed, might at least be feasible with a different scabbard, but as it is I just laugh at the though of him with both hands behind his head trying to pull it out inch by inch, fingers on the blade attempting to slide it up.

This is just Daenerys fighting the Wildlings in Winterfell.
I mean could it be any more Martin-esq if it tried?

Excluding the out-of-place looking helmet and dragon, this does not look like Elder Scrolls at all.

Take away the "hero" and the dragon and this is just a bland medieval...well just medieval. There isn't even anything fantasy about it up until the dragon makes a direct appearance.

A disturbing yet strangely interesting porno movie.

But whatever it turns out like most would call it a Dragon, because to most Dragon is superior to Wyvern.

My guess is simply that many of us have at some point thought "Hey, this game would make a great movie."
Live action trailers play upon that, kinda like "Hey, this game actually would make a great movie, and this is what that movie would be like!"
And I guess in some ways it works. We see it, think "Man, that'd be an awesome movie, I bet that game is pretty dang cool."

At least, this is my thoughts on it. I'm probably wrong.
