Dreadnought Enters Open Beta on PC

You can now try out the class-based spaceship action game Dreadnought, as its open beta kicked off today on PC.

If you've ever flown around in a spaceship game and thought that your ship was too damn small, then Dreadnought is for you. You'll fly massive capital ships in teams, trying to take out the opposing team.

The open beta will add a new map named Ixion, which is the biggest map yet added to the game. The official description of the new map reads, "Situated in space 60,000 kilometers above Saturn's largest moon, Titan, this new battleground forces players to maneuver around the colossal orbital ring that dominates its center. Narrow gaps within the superstructure allow ships to cross from one side to the other, but players must be wary of what dangers lurk on the other side." The open beta will also add night versions of the two maps that are already in the game, Rings of Saturn and Red Sands

The beta is free-to-play, and you can jump in by going to the game's official website [https://www.greybox.com/dreadnought/en/]. There are 50 different ships with a number of different specializations, from long-range sniping to support to short-range hit and run combat.

The open beta is only on PC, but there's also a closed beta on PS4 that you can sign up for here [https://www.greybox.com/dreadnought/en/ps4/].

Played it awhile ago, ended stopping because the F2P premium stuff started getting annoying, with more and more grind required and because match were all very same since they were all just team deathmatch which just ended up being a bunch of big ship in cover in one corner of the map taking potshot at another bunch of ship in the other corner. Anyone know if those things changed since then?

The ship looked absolutely fantastic though.

This looked really great but I lost all interest the moment it mentioned F2P. God, I cannot wait for Battletech, it is literally the only game I am interested in this year.

Just gave it a go, it's pretty damn fun so hopefully it's not P2W.

There was some of the both teams chill across the map and take potshots at each other strats in my last game, but that's pretty much because we had a god tier support ship player keeping our entire team alive and only one or two people on the other team bothered to swap ships from the sniper rifle with an engine to something that could go in and blow up our healer. Like there is some speedy ship designed for that I think, someone on my team was behind enemy lines roasting the snipers moving super fast at least. Looked like every ship that isn't the aforementioned sniper rifle with an engine sucks at long range so chilling at the back spamming the fire button is both not very fun and not very effective.

I like the energy management mechanic where you have to decide between shields, speed and more damage. I was just playing the biggest ship available so I was slow as hell but the speed upgrade felt pretty quick so I wasn't just using it for shields since it takes years to re-position yourself otherwise. Really makes you have to consider where you want to move in advance since if you've flown into a bunch of dudes you can barely even duck under a rock before losing half your hp.
