Interesting tidbit on the use of the controller’s haptic feedback from Demon’s Souls creative director, among others -

With the DualSense wireless controller and the power of haptics, we can make the combat [in Demon’s Souls] feel grittier, darker, and deadlier. Now you feel every blow as you strike down your enemies and cast each spell. You’ll experience the force of a titanic boss’ attack as you pull off a well-timed guard. Metal strikes metal when your foes block your attacks or you block theirs. That extra sensory feedback through the controller allows you to know your attack hit home and your perfectly-timed parry was a success, so you can react faster and more decisively.

We can also turn the simple act of pulling a lever to open a gate into a sensory experience. This is something that rumble could never do. It could never replicate the feeling of metal striking metal or fire crackling in your hand as you conjure magic. Haptics [are] integral to the experience, to immersing the player in the world and adding to the gameplay. The visual, aural, and tactile working together takes this new generation of gaming into the future
. — Gavin Moore // Creative Director, SIE Japan Studio

Meanwhile, doing anything on an XSX controller will still just feel like *lil bit rumble...moar rumble*....with zero button-specific feedback of any kind. And still requires users to buy batteries to do so. But hey, they just spent 7.5 billion on some arguably overrated AAA studios, so there’s that?

Sounds awesome. I can't wait to get one of these in my hands.

For their small size, i think the haptic feedback in the JoyCons on the switch or rather neat. It will be excited to see what a big time controller can do with the tech. The Demon's Souls description sounds nifty so it should be cool.

No surprise Microsoft is throwing maximum money around to give minimal effort. Going so far as to buy the studio that is now known for minimal effort.

I mean think about that for a second. Doesn't it really seem like Microsoft is somehow willing to spend money, but at the same time give zero effort. Their big offering is Game Pass, which is them throwing money around by offering people a shit load of games for small monthly fees. But it's also minimal effort because they don't have to do any development or work, they merely toss their old shit up on a service and hope people keep paying them for it.

The Series X offers nothing new, no new controller, no new game features, and everything about the Series X is simply, "It's like the Xbox one but stronger" and that's it. Hell they still aren't even attempting to dabble into the VR world.
