sounds pretty generic, to be honest. but i think ill buy it anyway. i just have to. i've been brainwashed over the years, and now i just have to play this game
It doesn't matter if it is generic or revolutionary, Duke Nukem has always been about the humor that came along with or in most cases, took over the gameplay, not the actual mechanics or look of the gameplay.

This is a game with just the history and humor of the character backing it, and that is enough. I played the Nukem games back when they were side scrolling shooters. They have always been generic, the humor is what made Duke a gaming icon.

I'm just afraid they will ruin the game to make it "consoleable".
How exactly is that possible?

The way I see it, 'consolification' as some people like to put it is when a game suffers or lessens in quality as a result of going from PC to console. From the looks of it, Duke Nukem wouldn't suddenly be worse because it's on an Xbox or PS3.

As a matter of fact, not very many games have been 'ruined' for the 'console tards', a lot of transfers from PC to console actually work pretty well (just look at Fallout 3, both the PC and Console versions of the game were very good), however, many PC versions of console games have been accused of sucking (the MW2 boycott comes to mind).
To be fair, there is not a lot to ruin about fallout as its not exactly twitch gaming. The most recent ruined example that comes to mind is Alien Vs Predator. What a trainwreck. Just porting games is not necessarily a disaster, depends on the type of game. But for a fps, NOTHING good can come of making it "playable" for both console crowds and PC crowds.

What I mean is that the port in and of itself can be done in a bad way or a good way, but the game itself might be changed to fit the pace of consoles. THAT is a disaster.

I don't think it was ruined, in fact i really enjoyed it. It may not be as good as AvP2, but it's still a decent game. I played the PC-version though, which one did you play?

I love how the masses are excited for this.

I feel better knowing that a lot of people want this game now.

Based on this 10 minute video, I can die happy.

The thing that really concerns me from watching gameplay footage is the X popping up to pick up weapons. Or really any time a button pops up during gameplay to tell you what to press. It completely breaks you away from the environment they're trying to create, and if you can't remember what button does what or the developer is incompetent enough to make it impossible to tell what to do without having a big flashing button on the screen, then someone has failed. But back to the weapons, it gives me the impression that it has the limited weapon capacity such as Halo. It worked in Halo, however in Duke Nukem I expect to be able to carry around at least 10 weapons at the same time. I can see it being a hassle on consoles because you don't have a mappable keyboard and have to cycle through weapons, so fingers crossed they'll have that function on PC. I'm sure I'll still buy it, I played the original when it first came out, and while not as good as Doom or Blood, this game has been a running side story for a good chunk of my life. I just hope Randy Pitchford makes George Broussard dance on top of his desk while wearing a dress before he throws any money at him. And hopefully it'll be thrown at his head, in the form of sacks of silver dollars.

Demo or bust! I will consider this DNF as a big bloody prank until there is a demo. Only -then- will I believe it.

How is Fallout 3 not an easy game to ruin? Big, complex RPG's have been the territory of PCs for a very long time (WoW, Deus Ex, System Shock, Knights of the Old Republic, Baulder's Gate and many more, all are famous and loved on the PC) and yet here we had a vast, open world RPG with a large amount of content that most players would probably never see, and it worked out perfectly fine on both console and PC and there were people who loved both versions (most issues with it surrounded the departure from the 2D overhead view to an FPS style).

Aliens vs. Predator was actually alright for me (I played it on the Xbox) so I don't know where your issue rests with that to be honest.

This statement made me think a moment, 'but the game itself might be changed to fit the pace of consoles. THAT is a disaster.', so FPS are now ruined forever because they follow a console's pace? (which is around the same pace that the old Duke Nukem games took place at anyway)

Does this mean that I can be pissed at PC gamers because they ruined console RTS's for me? (with your damned mouse and multiple conveinient buttons, how dare you not tailor the game around my wants!)

Well...considering that RTSes originated on PCs its not possible for PCs to ruin them...we had them first. But lets not derail too much.

As to the fallout comment: What I mean is that the combat in fallout is slow, and NOT based on precision and twitch gaming. Hell, its the exact opposite. Stop time -> pick body part -> auto fire. If I was trolling I might say that it is the extreme version of consolification :p But I am not, and its not. That game made a gameplay thing out of the combat system, and made its combat about something that was NOT based on extreme aiming, and fast movement.

Certain kinds of games simply belong on PC or Console (imo). FPSes belong on PC (imo). If you play the old Alien Vs Predator (cheap as dirt on steam btw) and compare it to the new one you will see what I mean. The new AvP feels like walking in porridge, the new alien movement system is completely hopeless compared to the old PC one and the gameplay is just slow slow sloooooooow. I am 100% sure this is because the game had to be usable by consolers too. If you doubt this, imagine playing the original AvP on xbox...yeah...

FPS gaming on consoles is of the "Halo" type. If you dont know what I mean by that it is: relatively slow movement. Focus on cover and timing instead of speed and accuracy. (Imo boring vs fun...but thats just my taste). While the lightning speed was one of the main draws on the original AvP to me, Duke Nukem is not as focused on speed as AvP. But I swear to god, if Duke Nukem is full of chest-high walls and slow, cover based action I'm going to be a sad panda.

Edit: placed a comma.

This game cannot possibly be even remotely as good as it will need to be to be accepted by the community. Why didn't they just call it Duke Nukem: Reboot and save themselves the risk?
