Duke Takes on Himself in New Duke Nukem Forever DLC

Apparently, just one evil twin is not enough for Duke Nukem.

Gearbox is adding more content to the surprisingly popular Duke Nukem Forever [http://www.amazon.com/Duke-Nukem-Forever-Xbox-360/dp/B002I0HAC6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1323556209&sr=8-1] with the release of "The Doctor Who Cloned Me" DLC pack this Tuesday.

[gallery=571]

The story of The Doctor Who Cloned Me is pretty simple. Deep in the bowels of area 51, Dr. Proton has cloned Duke as part of a fiendish plan and only Duke can stop him. The pack includes a new single player campaign, complete with new weapons and enemies, as well as a few new trophies/achievements.

The pack also contains four new multiplayer maps: Sky High takes place over three levels of an alien-infested office block, Command is set inside an Earth Defense Force base, Drop Zone sees Duke battling in his Las Vegas casino, and finally, Biohazard takes the fight to a nuclear power plant.

The Doctor Who Cloned Me comes out for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 on December 13th.

The game is crap. We all know that. However, assuming this is reasonably priced it sounds like a not-to-bad DLC. As opposed to; $5 for costumes $10 for four multiplayer maps $30 for more story Formula so many are following nowadays. Borderlands did show me that gearbox makes their DLC worth it (usually...)

I feel bad for Gearbox, they are taking a hit for a game that wasn't even really their fault. Hopefully they can make the redeem the franchise.

OT: Will not buy. Boycotting DLC for this game because of the shit that went down with the First Access members shit.

Sure DNF had its fair share of problems (the major one being 14 years late) but it wasn't as bad as some people seem to make out. I'll give this new campaign a fair shot once I get through my backlog of other games. I suspect that will be when the DLC's in a Steam sale.

So Duke will run around destroying cheap knock-off Dukes in an expansion produced for the rushed out parts of an incomplete prototype hurredly completed by the second choice producer. That has been a financial success regardless...

Is it me, or is Gearbox being incredibly meta?

Assuming that this DLC adds kicking, better jokes, actual health, and an inventory of 10 weapons, I'm in.
Bringing back Doctor Proton was a good idea, and it would be amusing if he was the only one who clearly recognized what a douchebag Duke really was, making the villain more relatable than any other character in the game.

You know, I'm sort of optimistic for this.

One of the big problems with DNF was that Gearbox was working on something already in progress. A lot of 3D Realms decisions beforehand affected what Gearbox could do to get the game ready to launch.

With this DLC, only Gearbox is working on it. Without being hampered by design decisions from a past developer, they might be able to pull off something halfway decent.

Honestly, the only way I could ever see Duke Nukem Forever as something that's "fun" is through DLC that adds on to the single-player campaign. If anything, it would provide Gearbox with a blank canvas; so I'm curious to see if this will be any good.

Why on earth would you feel bad? It's entirely their fault for releasing a poorly-made game; plus, they're not really taking "a hit" from anything.

How is it not Gearbox's fault? They chose to make the game. They chose to pick it up, they chose to release it even though it sucked.

They are bloomin' determined to save the Duke Nukem franchise aren't they, well I'm just glad it's Gearbox and not some other shit developer.

Although they are diverting resources away from Borderlands 2, God Dammit.

But of course. This is the internet.

That said, considering how Gearbox is presumably the ONLY ones to work on this DLC, I see it actually being good.

The DLC's going to keep the core mechanics of the full game (Including the PC's 4-weapon system thankfully), but I do expect better level design and better humor out of this. Also, 3DR is still kind of working on the DLC. 3DR's big 9 employees broke off into Triptych Games when 3DR shut down, then Gearbox bought them and helped them finish DNF. It's safe to assume that Triptych will have been working on the DLCs.

O.T. I got the first DLC for free, but it didn't seem worth $10. 7 t most. But this DLC basically has a second Parody Pack AND a new campaign. So I'm definitely buying this after I beat the main game on Insane.

I'd settle for just the 10 weapons myself (having four weapons slots was even worse than two, because the weapons keep switching slots when you pick up new weapons or advance a level, so that after having played with the rocket launcher on 4 for an entire level, suddenly it's on 2... blech).
No complaints from me if they bring back the mighty foot/boot, better jokes, and health, though.
Edit: Worse jokes would probably also be an improvement.

Can't we please just let this painful part of gaming history die? I honestly wish the game had never been made, it still would be an amusing joke, now it is just sad. Gearbox, you made a SHIT GAME... Let it go.

December 13th? Really?

Let's see, do I want to play more Duke Nukem Forever, or do I want to play RAAM's Shadow for Gears 3 that also comes out on the 13th?

Yeah, Gears 3 wins.

I love how people are yelling at Gearbox and not at Triptych over the DNF spectacle. Also, just about every thread, news piece, or post about DNF is derailed into posts hating on Gearbox. Not uncommonly whenever Gearbox is mentioned, somebody has to mention DNF.

Escapists can't let go of how DNF "failed" just like how they can't just shut up about ponies, and how every thread about Call of Duty is spammed with hate and BATTLEFIELD R BETTAR, HURR. Move on. Not every thread has to be derailed to discuss how much we hate Gearbox.

I know I'm going to get penalized for this, but I had to say it. The community is good, but sometimes they just piss me off.
