For those of you few people who don't know wtf Dungeons is, hearken back to a time in the distant past. A time of honest and pious, good men and women. Now, recall in your memories a small game developer going by the name of Bullfrog, and their smash hits, Dungeon Keeper 1 and 2. Now, you may at this point remember the depression you've felt when this developer closed down, taking it's IP with it. But on the 8th of February, all that will change.

Yes, I am referring to Dungeons, created by Kalpyso, another small developer. A game so similar to the previous beloved franchise that it could easily be labeled a spiritual successor if you will. Once again will we be able to create our dungeons, and send our minions to war against those Heroes. Once again, we will rule the darkness.

Unfortunately, the things are not what they seem. While there still technically are minions, you cannot 'send' them anywhere - they cannot leave their spawn points and cannot be controlled. And there's no 'war against Heroes', either. The heroes are simply customers in your Underground Theme Park dungeon. Sure, you kill them in the end to collect the "payment" in the form of their satisfied souls, but the point of the game is to entertain the heroes, not slaughter them.

It's not a spiritual successor to Dungeon Keeper, it's a Sim Dungeon Theme Park Tycoon that happens to look just like Dungeon Keeper. It might still be enjoyable (no guarantees whatsoever), but you should know what you're getting into.

Oh, and Kalypso is just the publisher, the developer is called Realmforge Studios.

I kind of wished the escapist would have done a video review of Dungeons. Bulletproof radio did an interview with Kalypso about Dungeons and their aquiring the rights to Jagged Alliance series.

Dungeons seems like dungeonkeeper superlight version to me.

No traps, no minions, no big battles etc, no sentry guns or big doors, casinos, etc, possessions etc.
It also was said to be short.

Just dust off that DK2 copy and play that. There is ways to get it to work on Vista etc. i have done so. Thats if you want to play a dungeon keeper game and not som Dungeon SIM's thing.

My disappointment summed up in a sentence.

Though it brings to mind a few things. First, that questionable eastern MMORPG that is based on the DK license.

Second, whatever happened to Dungeon Hero?
