E3 2010: James Bond Is Back In GoldenEye 007 Wii Remake

At its E3 2010 press conference, Nintendo confirmed a long-rumored remake of one of the most beloved 64-bit games of all time: GoldenEye 007 [http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=78167].

Remember how we reported that Activision would be revealing a remake [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/101129-Rumor-GoldenEye-007-Remake-Coming-at-E3] of the classic N64 game GoldenEye earlier this month? Well, we were half right. It wasn't Activision revealing the game, but Nintendo - but a reveal is a reveal nonetheless.

The new GoldenEye gets both a literal and figurative facelift. On the figurative side of things, the graphics are better than those of the N64 original (as one would hope, anyway...). Taking the expression literally, though, James Bond looks a bit different: Pierce Brosnan has been replaced by current Bond du jour Daniel Craig.

But the same GoldenEye set pieces are still there - the tank chase through St. Petersburg, the famous dam jump at the beginning - so we can hope it's a worthy successor to the original.

Greg Tito has more from the Nintendo E3 conference [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/101374-E3-2010-From-the-Nintendo-Press-Conference].

I am sorry for those that hate motion control. But that Klobb just looks fucking cool.

+1 for the Wii!

Awww but no more Brosnan? That's to bad, he was the Bond I grew up with (And thus, my favorite).

A Wii-make? Urgh no thank you. This is very, very, very disappointing...

Still that Klobb is the business!

Is it really a remake since it has Daniel Craig?
Very much so. When they remake movies they normally have different actors in them, so why not with a game?

Personally I prefer Daniel Craig's Bond to Brosnan's, but it'll be weird seeing him in the old story. What are they doing with the other character models in the game? New actors too?

If it has online play and plays nice with the Wii motion plus (also if it has the option to use Gamecube and classic controllers) then it may be the big hit of the year.

The thing is with Bonds though is that their all so distinct. You cant really pick and choose which Bond you want where. I cannot imagine Sean Connery's Bond playing in Goldeneye and I have a hard time imagining Craig popping out of a vent on top of soviet in the bathroom.

To me its messing with the canon but then again I would consider myself a fanboy so what I say should really be considered nill.

OT: Remakes are fun I guess. Its Goldeneye what is there to say?

Oh God that's a horrible thought, imagine Roger Moore in almost any of the more serious Bond films, or George Lazenby in anything at all...

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I'd much rather stick with Goldeneye: Source than buy a freaking Wii remake.
