E3 2010: PlayStation Move Out on September 19th, Under $99

At its E3 2010 press conference, Sony announced that its PlayStation Move motion controller would be coming out on September 19th, and it would be under a hundred smackers.

Sony confirmed that its motion controller Move would be beating competitor Microsoft's Kinect to market: It'll be out on the 19th of September.

It's also cheaper than the Eye + Move bundle [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/101341-Rumor-Kinect-Priced-at-149] (including a game) for $99. And if you own none of the above, you've got another bundle: A PS3, PS Move, a PS Eye, and a game for $399.

Of course, given that the "nunchuck" apparently costs $30 as well, it might not be cheaper than Kinect if you want to play with multiple people.

Still, not bad to start off with.

Definitely agreed. Far cheaper, comes out sooner, and it was less hyped the whole time too. It would be funny to hear in a few years time, an Ex-Sony exec saying in an interview "Yeah, we just did that Move thing to piss Microsoft off."

Well, I can't see there being motion control used in most non-casual games, so there's nothing to worry about guys, calm down.

Assuming you plan on playing one of the games with more than one person, that would be $100-160 depending on the game. Not necessarily cheaper.

Logically, that means that to play a game with 4 players you might need to drop $200+ on controllers.

The thing is, it gets more expensive the more wands you need. They've already mentioned that some games use up to two wands per person, so that's actually $100, and their nunchuck-analogue is another $30, so for a "full one-player set" that'll set you back $130 plus the Eye, compared to $40 Wiimote + $20 MotionPlus + $20 Nunchuck = $80 (albeit that's more flexible than just a single remote-MP-nunchuck set for the Wii). Then again the two-wand thing may not be prevalent enough to merit a second wand, we'll have to wait for the software to see that.

The price point just seems...standard. Not really anything special.

Plus, I'll say it before and I'll say it again, it's software that moves hardware. It's Children of Eden that gets people excited for what Kinect can do (yeah, it's on PS3 as well, but they haven't shown how that works yet, and it's more impressive just seeing the guy), and Sony needs to wow people with something or Move will just end up like the PS Eye itself.

PS1, PS2, PS Wii. Its less innovative and its going to cost $99 for a bundl + $40 per nun-chuck + $30 for extra controllers, it'll cost more to get 2 people playing than Kinect which gets 4 players.

This is much smarter than The Project formerly known as Natal. I think the lower price point is a huge selling point; spending a hundred bucks and getting a game with your gimmicky motion control is a lot more reasonable than paying 150$ or more for just the hardware.

$49 not counting the Other part to it, cant remember its name so ill call it a Nunchuck.
That's and extra $30 and iv heard some games require two Wii-motesWands per Person

So it will get pretty expensive if you want to go into the Multiplayer with other people.

Yeah, not exactly sure how this is cheaper than a Kinect?

I pay 150 (rumored) for a device that can support 4 people (and if you look at GameStop's site now, it says price is subject to decrease and is based on GameStop's speculation). I pay 130 for controllers for two people on PS3.

Of course all of this is a moot point since both motion controls look as reliable and accurate as the Wiimote before Wiimotion+. But honestly, if I wanted some silly party games, I'm going with the Kinect now--4 player for $150 comes to about 38 per person. Plus not having controllers makes it a little less awkward (I hate the process of getting everyone set up to play a game, especially if it's my girlfriend/parents who don't usually play video games)

Eh, I might get it but probably not. The games that they did showcase at their conference did look more than just cheap shovelware just to get some games on the Move, and it does support some pretty nifty games.

Overall, the price does seem reasonable, mainly the PlaystationEye+Move bundle, so I may consider it.

Well I'm surprised, in a good way, that they kept it under $100. Guess they figure they're paying enough with having to swallow the bitter pill that in order to even hope to beat Nintendo they're now emulating them. But I don't see how they can prove their "real gamers" comment. All that can ever amount to is a bunch of hyperbole and attempted class warfare.

Contray to Microsoft, Sony does know not to overprice their gimmicks.

I don't know, getting a full multiplayer setup with the Move sounds like it could be as expensive as the console itself.
