What are the odds that most of the people who objected to the Taliban being in the game will even be playing it.

They just lost a customer. Their reason aren't respecting wishes of soldiers and whatnot, they just don't have balls. How come movie makers can make whatever the fuck they want anc games get censored. ESRB is there for a reason! Fuck you EA!

I think EA made the right decision here, the families of fallen soldiers didn't like it. The Organizations that help families of those fallen soldiers didn't like it.
You can't always get what you want. Just because someone doesn't like something doesn't mean they have the right to force their opinion as the right one. This is bigger than you think. If a company as big as EA decides to do something like this then smaller companies don't stand a chance. People have to realize that video games are a medium just like movies these days. And they shouldn't be censored.

Good reasoning that as others have mentioned will be entirely ignored by the public because the mass media is content to maintain unfriendly relations with the industry.
Besides, it's not good reasoning and logic to be offended about a game you won't play for depicting a more realistic set of world players in a game about how they didn't get along.

I should be offended that the Nazi's are in WWII, I would be far less offended if instead we fought Crimson Unicorns from space.

Hmm, sarcasm aside that does sound like it would be a better game then another WWII clone...

Back to the point though. It's unfounded to be offended so it's a rational decision based on unfounded components. I can appreciate they are trying to step lightly in some ways, but ultimately I'm disappointed that censorship walked in this door again.

But I guess I shouldn't be talking as I had no intention of playing any Medal of Honor game ever and that leaves me with about as much say as the people I'm calling irrational for caring.

Totally agrre. The first post today i read was the newest MoH is the most pre-ordered game of the whole serie. Next news was they changed the taliban name.

Nice publicity stunt EA. Now please die as a gaming company.

Well now I can call them rag-heads instead of Taliban rag-heads, that will cause less ill feelings across the interwebz.

They shall no longer be called Taliban. The faction's name will now simply be "Brown people"
Ahem, some of them have rags on their heads so in order to not be politically incorrect I believe we should call them "brown rag-heads". That way we wont single out any crazy extremist group and we blanket the whole region so no one feels left out.

just a name change? then who cares.
This.

So freaken much.

The amount of pointless whining on this thread is unbelievable.
its not about the name you moron its abount the prinsible of thing. If you cave in to the scraming bitchying idiot masses every time they complain nothing much is going to be left.(this applies to everything not just games)
Really?

I don't remember things like this happening a lot. In fact this is literally the only case I remember of the top of my head. When was the last time a video game developer removed something from a game because of a outcry? And how does being able to play as the Taliban instead of "Terrorist X" do anything to "improve gaming as a medium and as a art form" or whatever as some people have insisted?

That, coupled with the fact that this "change" does next to nothing to impact the actual game gives me no reason to assume that people (read: teenagers) aren't just bitching and moaning for no good reason.
The fact it upsets people makes it more of an art. It has emotionally frustrated them by causing them to consider their own life and reflect on how they feel about people playing their enemy.

People have died, it's not a good thing, no one is celebrating that. What is a good thing, is being able to accept that and reference real world happening without pulling your punches. This wasn't an airport where you gun down civilians, this isn't a game about playing the Taliban in the US and running around bombing things.

It's a Name. A name with fair reason to be there.

Umm, I don't think that they removed Nazi's. I mean, I was playing CoD 3 the other day, and I totally pushed this Nazi off this tower, and....Ohhh, SARCASM!! :3 You so Funny
No no, this is a matter too important to make jokes about. You won't believe how hard it is to get all those media outlets into full rage mode about stuff like this. This change in publishing strategy is a welcome one and really makes things a lot easier in the quest for depersonalized, uniform media. Indeed, this would be especially good for the gaming industry as a whole. Games will be easier to compare and lots of productivity will be released due to interchangeable assets. With the removal of historical references, the time spent on these modern internet forums, discussing the story synopsis or importance of tattoos on npc's necks, will be redirected towards much more positive endeavors. The FAQ community alone would be able to finally craft understandable, in-depth dvr programming guides in all major languages.

I don't want to go too far into this, but let me tell you that right here we are at the first steps into a glorious future. First people will be able to record their favorite talkshow, but soon they will be able to operate a spacecraft!

Activision seems to go towards a different path by allowing a plethora of customization options, but as far as I can tell they won't get my money until I am allowed to customize the names of both multiplayer teams as well as the publisher name on the box.

I'm extremely disappointed. They tried as hard as they could to spark controversy with Dante's Inferno and when they finally got the media's attention they backed out.

There is absolutely nothing that could have gone wrong. People would be talking about this and that's free advertising! And could you imagine the hype that would come up if this game even got banned? Everyone would want a banned game! If they got sued, they would win in court. It's the ultimate controversy spewing machine and they jumped out of it. See, back before I was really big on gaming news and didn't really keep up with that kind of stuff (not too long ago) I remember everyone talking on Fox News about a game I had never heard about: Mass Effect. I heard the outrage from gamers talking about how silly that was. Then I went out and bought Mass Effect. And so did a lot of people. Controversy is free advertising. Especially when it's easily defended like this.

Hmm, even better, let's call them Talibans! Since America is at war at them, it should be right to be able to fight against them! Totally Flawless!

No one could ever be offended by any of this, think if we limited it to just one faction? they would have felt picked on and angry.

Huzzah, the day where we'll have to call zombies "living-impaired" by public law draws nigh.

Also, why aren't the US troops renamed? Why isn't it "Taliban vs. Infidels"?
