They shall no longer be called Taliban. The faction's name will now simply be "Brown people"
Ahem, some of them have rags on their heads so in order to not be politically incorrect I believe we should call them "brown rag-heads". That way we wont single out any crazy extremist group and we blanket the whole region so no one feels left out.
Flawless plan is Flawless
You're right. Let's just call them "Muslims"
Hmm, even better, let's call them Talibans! Since America is at war at them, it should be right to be able to fight against them! Totally Flawless!
damn were good.
But really folks the government getting involved in the game industry and fucking with someones creation because of a name...that's infringement on the 1st if Ive ever seen it.

Nice to not stick to your guns, EA. Nice NOT to bow to knee-jerk reactions by people utterly shit-scared by the media.. just nice.

*eyeroll*

Well, fuckadoodledoo.

EDIT: On the other hand, it was of course blatant propaganda, but still.

I've said it before, I'll say it again. The Taliban aren't just generic militants. There are countless militant groups in both Iraq and Afganistan. The Taliban are a partisan organization with clear goals. Goals that are in direct opposition to a lot of the foundations of modern western civilization.

In my mind, allowing the player to take the role of Taliban or Al-Qaeda militants against coalition soldiers is just as bad as letting the player be an SS officer persecuting the Jews.

Personally, I commend EA for thinking about their actions, rather than just having controversy for controversy's sake, unlike a certain publisher I can think of...

Jesus christ, why does nobody in the video games industry understand that the only way video games are going to be more respected as a medium is to put forth more and more controversial content!

this pisses me off so much, its the idea that a bunch of preachy moms who have kids who shouldn't be playing this game and some relatives of someone affected by something similar to whats being portrayed in the game can go protest and yell until they get their way. yes I know it will be the same game except they wont be called Taliban but the principle of it pisses me off so much I'm not buying the game. sorry EA but I guess I'll be spending more time with Reach, Black Ops, and TF2/L4D.

Don't really care. Didn't matter what they were called to me, because i'd still shoot them all.

That has lost the game for me on a principal level. I was willing to shell out for this as it demonstrated how far gaming is coming along. This cop out has cost EA at least one sale.
Two sales.

If they can't defend their own game, it's not worth buying.

We can have games with Nazis all the time, but the second the Taliban is included (as the bad guy) then it's suddenly bad?

This is bullshit.

What a load of bollocks...
Couldn't agree more, but EA has never really been a company with a true backbone so their bowing to pressure doesn't really surprise me....though Insurgents would probably be better sounding then Opposing Force because well anything could be an opposing force.

So how about the feelings of the families of the Opposing Force fighters, who have had their sons and fathers killed by Coalition soldiers?

I say, to be fair, that BOTH factions in the game are renamed to Opposing Force. Its more realistic, too

Ah, crimeny.... EA should grow a pair instead of handing them over to the media on a plate.

I understand the feelings of families who lost sons or husbands out there, of course I do, but if EA cared so deeply about these people's feelings, why even attempt to make this game in the first place?

I can see the argument against it, but this is pretty ridiculous. They should've stuck to their guns and held on to the name. The industry needs to grow and that's not going to happen if publishers keep backing down.
