Its like that six days in faluja or whatever game, it set out to be an authentic realistic portrail of battle but a small number of crotchety people who dont ever play games and havnt played the game itself got mad that it was a real thing that happened like 6 years ago. So now we will never see that game because the publisher dropped it, I think it was Activision that time. The bigger the company the smaller dick they have, unless it comes to money extorsion or fucking normal gamers up their ass

well as a brit i'm offended that we always have to play as the yanks, and more so that those yanks are always the ones that save the world, even in battles they originally had little to do with

think we can get EA to get rid of the americans and call them 'friendlys' or something? no that's no good - they'd just shoot each other, um.... home team?

Thank you EA, thank you for showing us that you are a bunch of cowards.

Isn't this such a great precident to set, that if a few whiny bastards ***** long enough they can get what they want.

Here's an idea, i want everybody who is going to play the multiplayer to name thier character "Taliban:(whatever)" and who these whiny prics that they may be able to threaten EA, but not us.

So in all the previous games... when my "opponents" are screaming German and trying to kill me...

They weren't REALLY Nazis.

Or Japanese when they carried arisakas, and were located in the Pacific Isles.

Or Russian in any of the more recent games where Russia was the favored flavor of baddie.

I feel better knowing I was JUST playing an opposing force in all of those multiplayer matches. I might have accidentally begun sympathizing with genocidal dogmas if I had ACTUALLY been a German.
I think the difference is that the video games that contained Nazis and Japanese weren't created in 1939. People are going to oppose these things anyways, but the reason they're offended is that these are names from enemies that exist in actual recent history and present day.

So they won't be wearing their Taliban badges anymore? I'm disappointed EA, it would have been better if they had Taliban badges./sarcasm

On a more serious note, I don't see how this will affect the fun factor of the game play at all so I don't mind the change.

LMFAO.....they switched the name from Taliban to Opposing Force? That's retarded. I can't picture anyone who was upset about it before being relieved by this. Now we have a group that doesn't have a name but looks like, acts like, and is based on the Taliban, and that makes it better somehow? It's okay to kill American soldiers in a video game, but only if it's not the Taliban doing it? It's hard to believe how incredibly ignorant people are. We've played as Nazi's and the Taliban before, whether the game directly said so or not.

A lot of people who are in a position to argue do it for the sake of controversy instead of guinely being offended. It's just like how people complained about the word "god" in the U.S pledge of allegiance. Do you really think that anyone was actually offended by it? I'm an atheist and I didn't care in the slightest. If you lost someone you love to them, then I completely understand if you're not comfortable playing as the Taliban. But if this is the case, then why would you be comfortable killing soldiers as an unnamed terrorist group, and more importantly, why would you be comfortable playing any shooting game at all? What about those who were not killed by the Taliban, but by an unnamed "opposing force?" Is this not offensive to their families? Do they not matter as much? In fact, I'd go as far as to say that this is even more offensive to most soldiers (you know- the ones ACTUALLY FIGHTING) for throwing authenticity out the window and suggesting that something completely different is going on over there. All this talk of caring about the opinions of those impacted by the war more than others is a complete load.

I'm going to start a new country and our people will be called Opposing Force, I'll complain to EA that the game is promoting killing my citizens and they'll change it to Taliban.

Am I the only one who doesn't really mind this? They removed the Taliban as a playable faction? Hoo-fuckin-ray! I thought it was a kind of bad move from the get go. I mean my god playing as a member of the Taliban to kill pixelated versions of US troops, seems like it is in the bad taste line. They were well within their right to do so of course, but still I am relieved they chose not to.

I think they could have chosen a more appropriate name than "Opposing Force". Ignorant extremists, for instance.
They should apply that name to the American forces, perhaps?

I can't help but feel that EA bailed. The damage is done, and now it's going to be harder for the next outcry about a video game to be resisted.

can't say as I'm surprised. I don't think it's that big a deal though. What they really should have done was make them something so completely racist that Taliban wouldn't seem so bad. Don't worry opposing force, though you've been stripped of your name and dignity, I will still happily call you Taliban.

Wait, i'm sorry, so they can't mention the "Taliban" yet they can still name the US forces. What a load of bullshit. US media, you're a bunch of fucking hypocrits. You quite honestly disgust me.

Score another point for needless censorship, this is absolutely retarded, it may be a "small" thing but it's really the principle that matters.
