I've lost a friend over in the middle easy due to an IED and it doesn't bother me at all when I see those in games because I know it is just a game. Yeah, changing the name doesn't do a thing, but please people that might be offended (and for some reason 'political correctness' just came to mind). I'm sure there are still people that are offended by Nazis in games, and there was even a facebook group trying to get STALKER banned because Chernobyl was 'such a bad event'. What ever happened to 'if you don't like it, don't play it'? It is like everyone is trying to stick their fingers in our pie. :/Irridium said:Just like Call of Duty...Assassin Xaero said:That. So, I'm guessing the models and skins are exactly the same, but now they are just renamed [Generic Terrorist Group] from Middle-Eastern-stan.IamQ said:This just shows how stupid people are.
"They're called 'Talibans', that horribly wrong, you hate America, you fucker!"
"What if we don't change anything, except that we rename them to 'Opposing Force'?"
"Well then, that's alright."
I'm not trying to start a flame war or anything, but thats really what its like."Op-For" (which is actually "Opposing Force") doesn't fool anyone.
They're the Taliban. Plain and simple. Changing the name won't make them go away.
I'm disappointed EA. Very, very disappointed. Hell, lets listen to this passage:So your telling me the voice of the military currently fighting the Taliban, their families, and everyone else don't matter compared to those who lost family?...We've received notes from gamers, active military, and friends and family of servicemen and women currently deployed overseas. The majority of this feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. For this, the Medal of Honor team is deeply appreciative,"...
"However, we have also received feedback from friends and families of fallen soldiers who have expressed concern over the inclusion of the Taliban in the multiplayer portion of our game. This is a very important voice to the Medal of Honor team. This is a voice that has earned the right to be listened to. It is a voice that we care deeply about,"
Yet it's totally fine for people to play as US forces and kill pixellated "Taliban" forces. For all of the hype, they're not evil, they're not the bad guys. They're fighting for a cause just the same as the Americans. Not to say I agree with them, but because they're fighting the Americans doesn't make them evil. To make this alright, it should either include both the US forces and the Taliban or neither.kotorfan04 said:Am I the only one who doesn't really mind this? They removed the Taliban as a playable faction? Hoo-fuckin-ray! I thought it was a kind of bad move from the get go. I mean my god playing as a member of the Taliban to kill pixelated versions of US troops, seems like it is in the bad taste line. They were well within their right to do so of course, but still I am relieved they chose not to.
I dont know if Id put godless in there, they tend to have much more god then we have, which is kind of the problem but its a moronic change but at least they arnt changing them to russians, how many times can games beat that dead horse, the cold war ended long agowooty said:Hmmm, I guess the phrase "power to the people" comes into mind here.
Ah well, back to the standard formula of just shooting random, faceless, nameless, godless, evil ragheads then.
Of course we are disapointed in them, they said that they were going to do something, knowing what would happen, and obviously not believing to be disrespectful. then, they caved cuz they didn't have the courage to go through with it, in so doing, achieving nothing except to give gaming a bad rap, and to show the world that gaming doesnt have enough powere to do what it says it will. how could you not be disapointed in them?Poomanchu745 said:You are disappointed that they listened to soldiers and families of soldiers and used better judgment in making a decision? It's not like they were being forced to do anything. They chose to heed the wishes of many people who's lives have been changed by their interaction with the Taliban?Javex said:I'm disappointed in you, EA.
I wouldn't have minded either way really, but it sounds like they at least used good reasoning and judgment in this call.
