They are now showing off Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order.
It look decent but nothing special, a few years ago I would have called that a good rental candidate, but that doesn't exist anymore... Actually there seems to be far less linear 3rd person action game these days so it wont have to do that much to stand out of the crowd.

It doesn't look clunky at all. In fact it's smooth as butter.

The problem is that it's completely and utterly generic. Like some executives came up with a list of generic features, handed the list down to developers and told them to make a game based on those features and nothing more. That demo looked entirely devoid of any creativity and originality. Compared to this, The Force Unleashed looks like a masterpiece.

It looks like Uncharted/Prince of Persia Star Wars Edition.

Fallen Order is REALLY lacking flair. A lot of this I put up to the shortcomings of the Unreal engine. It is...not ideal for fast-paced action games

I was interested in it. but not now anymore. combat looks bad, game looks too easy, level design are non existence and all i see is you are walking in just straight line and no room for exploration.

The game isn't going to be linear. The developers have said that they were inspired by Metroid Prime. Their combat is also supposed to be inspired by Dark Souls and Bloodborne.
Protagonist Cal Kestis uses the idea of careful timing and "thoughtful combat" to look for openings where a quick lunge will do the most damage. ----- Outside of combat, Fallen Order has been inspired by Metroidvanias and Asmussen says that the development team "looked at the structure of Metroid Prime closely." The game won't be "exactly like Metroidvania," but the idea of using upgrades to allow access to new areas at certain points of the game certainly seems to have been explored, and will echo Cal's growth as a Jedi.
The problem is, none of this is actually shown off during the demo. The only time the player is in danger is when they stop to show off an effect or something. And the Demo is incredibly linear. If they took to time to properly show all of this off, instead of leaving it to articles most won't read, the game would probably look better. They didn't put their best foot forward, which is unfortunate since I've been looking forward to a good single player SW game. The game doesn't come out for a few months anyway, so they've got time to recover from an awful first impression.

Only saw the Star Wars game and I'm a bit disappointed by it, it looked a bit wooden and stiff.

Double jumping looked weird, the main character has a weirdly stiff looking walking animation, when turning off the lightsaber the main character's arm position looks weirdly stiff.

As always, it's a bit of a downer to see an overpowered weapon like a lightsaber be reduced to a glowing baseball bat; in the movies they cut pretty much anything they touch, in games you're stuck hitting enemies multiple times to do game-damage.

JFO is giving me Dark Souls vibe. Am I the only one here?

Also, I really hope there is more force power other than force push/pull and paralysis. I'm talking about Jedi Knight and Force Unleashes powers; Force lightning, mind trick, force choke, etc.

You're not the only one that noticed.

That plus Bloodborne.

I don't mind the Soulsborne/Sekiro/Ni-Oh style combat, but it's clear you can't just button mash your way through. Combat is more grounded, unlike the FU which was let's make a DMC/God of War over-the-top combat style of game. Odds are you won't see mind trick or force lightning. I know they're going for a Metroidvania style of level design, so I don't mind.

My personal favorite highlight was that you can parry and there is Bayonetta dodge where time slowsdown when you execute a perfect dodge. Definitely put a smile on my face. Not bad Respawn. Not bad. Hopefully, EA will keep their dicks out of this game. I won't be first in line to pre-order, but I will keep checking on progress as it gets closer to retail release.

The Force Unleashed just felt like a fanfic story wise. Gameplay is entertaining, but really jank. Force Unleashed II felt like DLC turned in to a 60.00 game. I know my GameStop has both game used, so I might pick them up later to see how much they have both aged. I still say the best game with light-saber combat isn't even a Star Wars game, but No More Heroes 1 & 2 (called beam katanas). Yet, both games had plenty of SW references. Seriously, I would not mind to see a crossover where Travis Touchdown fight Vader or Kylo Ren.

Also, a GameStop employee told me that this is apparently the last time EA will hold rights for game adaptions of SW. After FO, the game rights go back to Lucas Arts who are coming back. Me personally, I think that's just a rumor, as Disney was happy with Battlefront I & II's success and did not seem to have any problems with EA's use of lootboxes. If the Star Wars property is supposed to go to someone else after EA, Disney has yet to bring it up.

More Sekiro than Dark Souls. A more wooden bland Sekiro. Which is not what you want to do for a freaking Jedi.

So I just sat through the whole 3 hour video. Here are my personal inputs.

First off, no cringy-ass "GGGGOOOAAALL" shout, no cringy-ass speakers, and no cringy-ass messages from Andrew Wilson. I also noticed how Anthem was not part of the whole thing, which I consider a sign for EA to realize that is a dead game.

But other than Star Wars game, the rest of the presentations were just kind of.....boring. I mean the presenters and the devs talking about their games was nice, but come on; A content update on Apex Legends, Battlefield V, and Sims 4? Have we sank this low where content updates are considered E3 materials?

The only new games that I see are Madden NFL and FIFA 20, although I use the term "new" very lightly. People complain about Call of Duty being the same shit every year, yet here we have two sports game franchise that's been doing that for far longer

Considering the fact that EA keeps shutting down all the non Fifa/Madden studios it has, I'm amazed that they much more than half an hour of stuff to show off. They probably need these content updates to pad the runtime of their presentation.

I just read the latest article about The Fallen Order on the front page. Is that guy on Disney's payroll or just another incompetent video game journalist? Holy crap that might be the worst video game article that I have ever read on this website.

Was it the Game Informer article or something else?

Okay, if true, there's a GIGANTIC problem with that: those games are NOT combat games, they're exploration games. And if the first gameplay reveal does not make that clear, that's a bad sign already with how this game is being pushed.
