To be fair MNC and Awesomenauts both did the change of perspective way before smite, and it's my opinion that SMNC did what smite wanted only better and before, but some people might rather have smite. That said, I do not think that change is needed to make a good game.
the reason i mentioned smite is because someone mentioned it and the pesky bugger was stuck in my head.
while you are right that the perspective doesn't make the game what i tried to say was that companies really need to make something with the whole concept(you control a hero, automated troops run down lanes ect) and because developing being waht i currently is most developers try to copy as much of DOTA and add gimmick X.
awesomenauts is a pretty good example of how to do it right, they decided to corner the more noob-friendly, more casual market and it seems to work for them.

Oh silly me, I forgot to comment on the game.
EA: Unless you're bringing something new and innovative to the MOBA genre, you cannot win here.
If you are going to try and charge money for your game, make damn well sure it's only on consoles (and have fun playing DOTA with just a controller) because you will be STEAMROLLED by DotA or completely crushed by LoL (which is FREE).

After all, there MUST be normal folks trying to have a good time who would complain about such people, yes?
There aren't, because those still sane among us left the MOBA community already.
(and I had the "privilege" of playing the very first version of DOTA, and Aeon of Strife before that. The assholes, ragers, pro-wannabees and griefers were always there, but they've only become worse with time)

Ah, well...that's what I get for optimism, I guess. Carry on, then.

Kind of beating a dead horse, but anyway:

I play LoL regularly, and even though DOTA2 has some interesting ideas and I think Valve is the best game company at the moment, learning +100 new champions isn't worth the effort to me.

On the other hand, Dawngate seems to have no originality at all, it's made by EA and it forces you to install malware called Origin.

It's a little sad that SMNC flopped, the concept of "TF2 meets MOBA" seemed really interesting. It just feels like Uberent is doing their best to keep SMNC hidden. For example their "announcement" of the pro Robo-Hobo was a 2 minute video of a dancing robot. No video preview of his skills, no up-to-date Wiki site, no playing tips or info about his role, no backstory or anything. Just a f***ng dancing robot.

As always, EA is late for the party. By the time this releases, the MOBA market will be saturated.
League,

Valve's sequel,

HoN's blatant Dota ripoff,

Blizzard's eventual attempt at stealing a fan mod from its own game,

Smite doing its own thing,

and now EA, once again trying to ride the coattails of a genre monopoly (League in this case), probably with a bloated dev cost and passable to pretty good actual content. They'll lose money and blame the developer, or the fans. yadayada.

You know how that old song and dance goes.

Oh nice, yet another MOBA that brings absolutely nothing new to the glut of the genre..
