So? Ain't that exactly the same thing as Blizzard is doing with their Battle.Net master account? Isn't that the same as Valve does with Steam? I fail to see difference. All of those companies can block all your games from them if they find out that you were a naughty naughty boy and find a loophole in their terms of use that allows such action without legal problems.
Welcome to the internet. Enjoy your stay.

This is why we can't have nice things.

I feel glad that I never bought an EA after C&C3, like RA3 or C&C4. But wait... If you buy C&C4, or any other EA game on Steam, and you get banned on EA forums, will it affect your Steam games?

This thread is 2 years old - maybe something's changed since then. I don't know why it was started again.

OT - People need to read the ELUA - it looks like a boring block of text, but still...

And I'm sure it's oh-so-difficult to download a cracked .exe to bypass all that.

I despite piracy and pirates with a passion, but I have no problem with cracked launchers (for use on purchased games) to bypass such idiocy.

OLD NEWS IS OLD.

I love EA now. Especially their "anti-used" campaign.

Two years ago, I was riding the hate train. Now, I'm riding the love and adoration train.

That seems like a terrible new practice, banning one from accessing their single player account. If you get banned from the forum and they decide to ban you from the game, it should only be the multiplayer you are banned from (not that I support that either). To put a user on what seems to be a permanent ban for being an ass on the forum (or rather, for pissing off a moderator) seems to me like a new form of theft. People have to pay to play EA's games. There is the initial sale, not to mention subscription fees. If you buy Spore today (for some reason) and get banned tomorrow it is as though they taken your money for the sake of taking your money. Doesn't sound like a good business practice and if they want to stay as big as they are, they'll reconsider their new policy.

This is actually the kind of thing I am tempted to test. I am playing Mass Effect 2, not even at the mid-point but, if I get banned from their forum, I wonder if they could lock me out of the game itself. Or...if their power reaches to the consoles yet...it's only a matter of time I guess

I don't post on their forums so I guess I have nothing to worry about. Plus I'm sure that some people deserve this measure

SO basically, EA have decided that assholes aren't allowed to play the games which they paid for.

If they did this this would be the single most asshat move they could pull period.

I mean any company can say your flaming their product unfairly if you call it a bug ridden pos, that you cannot get to work and the drm is garbage.

Banning a user is passable, since even pirates will clog support forums for support requests, but locking out of the games that users PAYED for? by doing this a company will finally make that last jump into the realm of you do not own stuff you buy.

now lets look at this from a common sense viewpoint what if clothing companies could revoke your rights to the clothes you bought. or your car company even if you made all the payments or payed up front they did not like your custom modifications or your aftermarket paint job and could take the car back because you do not own it. or any product or company that you can complain about just sent some thugs over to your house to repossess the product in question.

video game companies and movie companies have already pushed the idea that you are just borrowing or leasing something from them rather than owning the disk you payed 40 to 60 bucks for, and really have no rights to to do much of anything with it. make a personal backup copy? nope we gutted fair use laws to make that illegal. how about installing a game any where i like? nope we have install limits and reinstall limits and limited digital activations. too bad for you.

now how many other industries could get away with telling people you do not own what you bought? that some reproducable media cannot be reproduced to keep one copy safe. that your are not entitled to much of anything. even your choice of where and when you use it is limited.

if they keep pushing this whole mentality i do not blame people for pirating.

I love how we all think of Tim Curry when we search for a face embodying evil.... :p

I'm not surprised at EA, though. They've never really been people friendly to their employees, so it's hardly surprising they ride rough shod over their customers as well.

Why is this getting posts? o_o This is 2 years old.

And EA are now awesome and we hate Activision.
Probably because of the Acti Real ID fiasco. And I gotta say I like this idea far better than the Real ID.
