I think this is just EA's way of saying, "The game didn't bomb, so now we can act civil."

They think they've won, or at least are winning. While they may not have outsold Black Ops, they probably feel that the people who bought Battlefield won't be buying MW3 (a few of my friends are of that mentality), so they don't expect MW3 to sell as well as past CoD games.

They're cocky. At least, that's how I perceive this.
They still our fukn cocky, and their cockyness and their agenda to be better then MW3 and get it out before the it, is what really hinder BF3 to be greater than it could have been. Im not saying BF3 is bad, Im saying it could have been quite better if EA didnt make this a dick measuring contest.

I've never played a CoD game, and since I don't like modern day military themed shooters I'm never likely to, so I have no particular dog in this fight...

...but I hope MW3 absolutely crushes Battlefield. EA deserves it.

And I'm looking forward to similarly modest statements from EA say around March of next year, once TOR's numbers start to settle.

Wow, it almost seems like EA's comments had been nothing more than a marketing ploy.

You know, if they in some alternate world actually managed to outsell Modern Warfare 3 on their first day, we sure as hell wouldn't be getting a humble little message like they posted.
It'd be "HURR DUR WE TOLD U SO, UR GAEM SUCKS BF3 AWSUM LOL!"

I'm not buying an apology as if they are trying to save face. Had this turned out any different, EA would still be acting like a bunch of jackasses. I don't hand out sympathy to people who jerk me around and then come back begging after they realize how much they fucked up.

EA just wants MW3 on Origin so it can nab a bit of its profits.

What's that? Origin freely scanning the entirety of the hard disk? Surely not.

I'm pretty sure most of their reason for acting so childishly was to grab attention, and now that the game is out, they don't need to act like dicks to market it anymore.

At least that's my understanding of the situation.

Are you telling me that EA, the company that forced malware onto user's computers in the past with Spore, are now scanning user's computers without their knowledge and said they could through an EULA because fuck the consumer?

I must protest, sir.

Next, EA comes crawling back to Steam, I hope?

Chickening out now that the shit has hit the fan; and it was stinkier and sloppier than you had imagined, EA? Never dreamt of ever saying this but Go Activision! Kick their greedy corporate asses, how hypocritical it may be!

I'm sorry, I can't say that, because if I was to say that, I'd render all my EA software unplayable as they could cancel my ability to play online, while they could retroactively counter-sue me because I broke the EULA in doing so. Because my online account was rendered into an Origin account without my say-so.

Careful, you're straying into "hater" territory. Because remember, if you complain about any of this, you're just a dirty hater.

C'mon EA. You talked big. We all knew it was just a marketing stunt since we're actually a point now where the CoD hater base is actually sizeable enough to market a game to. Accept the fact that CoD will in almost all certainty beat you in the quantity that you desperately wanted to win at and will probably also beat you in quality for the console side judging from my experience.

Isn't being a hater also a reason for EA to cancel your account? Or did they retroactively change that so they can put it back in at a later date?

I don't know. All I know is that since we also use Steam, it also means we're willing to use any other program from any other company regardless of what that company has done. Because signing up for a service from a trusted company such as Valve who has shown they are willing to work and fix issues that make the service crap, is definitely the same as signing up for a service from EA who has shown they're willing to take your money and simply treat you with contempt at best.

But, I'm saying to much. I may be branded a hater and lose my ability to play all of the amazing games EA has produced over the past few years. Such insanely innovative titles like Dragon Age 2, Crysis 2, Bad Company 2, and Battlefield 3.
